Position Summary
Under the general direction of the Manager, Financial Planning, Analysis and Risk, the Financial Analyst is a participant in the coordination, development and maintenance of the annual budgeting process. The Financial Analyst will also provide support in the financial planning, analysis and strategic decision-making initiatives of the College. Key responsibilities and duties of the position include but are not limited to:
- Develop analytical tools and reports to identify risks and opportunities to support strategic planning initiatives of the College · Liaise with budget holders to assist with budget planning, preparation and monitoring activities. · Provide guidance on accounting matters, financial reporting requirements and resolving budget issues · Ensure that controls surrounding the budget process controls are operating effectively · Adhere to Ministry deadlines in submitting required reports and prepare reports for the various attestation audits that occur throughout the year. · Analyze, compile and prepare complex regulatory reports to external agencies, including the preparation of preparation required submissions to the Ministry of Colleges and Universities ( MCU ) Consolidated Financial Information System. · Maintain schedules and supporting documentation of capital assets and deferred capital contributions for financial reporting purposes · Provide accounting support to the Financial Services department of the College, including general ledger chart of account maintenance, preparation of required journal entries and account reconciliations · Assist with system administrative functions of the financial systems utilized by the College · Provide support for various quality control and risk management initiatives of the Financial Services department · Participate in the development of financial training modules and customized financial reporting tools

- Post-secondary degree in Finance or Accounting
- CPA Professional Accounting Designation, or working towards considered an asset
Experience
Typical number of years of experience, in addition to the necessary education level, required to perform the responsibilities of the position
Minimum of five (5) years
Type of Experience
Demonstrated experience in financial reporting, including budget development, monitoring and variance analysis.
Demonstrated understanding of financial analysis, planning and forecasting techniques. Experience analyzing and presenting financial, statistical and other related information.
Advanced working knowledge in the use of integrated financial systems.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, power point, and report writing skills.
Knowledge of computer program languages and tools ( SQL , Cognos) is an asset.
