About the role

Summary of Duties

We currently have a 15-month temporary full-time position for a Pharmacist in the Ambulatory Patient Pharmacy (Outpatient Pharmacy). Key responsibilities of a Pharmacist can be broadly divided into four areas:.

  • Drug Distribution

  • Check accuracy and therapeutics of prescriptions;

  • Intake of prescriptions, including gathering of necessary information for processing prescriptions through Kroll Pharmacy Software (paperless); and

  • Ensuring workflow in the pharmacy is maintained.

  • Direct Patient Care

  • Counsel patients on prescription and non-prescription medications;

  • Perform MedsChecks & Medication Reconciliation;

  • Provide smoking cessation counselling and prescribing as needed;

  • Device training, including injections, inhalers, sensors, and spacers;

  • Administration of vaccines included in the expanded scope of practice; and

  • Prescribing for Minor Ailments as allowed by current expanded scope.

  • Problem Solving

  • Clarifying, adapting and extending prescriptions;

  • Answer drug information questions and requests;

  • Inquire with patients and/or family members about insurance and/or resolving billing issues as needed; and

  • Documentation of interactions/counselling.

  • Education

  • Participate in the education of students, including volunteers; and

  • Plan & participate in pharmacy-run clinic days.

Must be available to work a Saturday shift as per the Pharmacist schedule.

Qualifications/Skills

  • Current licensure by the Ontario College of Pharmacists (or licensure within 18 months of hire)
  • Injection trained, including CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Previous outpatient pharmacy experience an asset
  • Able to work well in fast-paced, sometimes stressful work environment
  • Self-motivated and able to take initiative
  • Demonstrate ability to work well in a multi-disciplinary team environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Well organized with strong time management skills
  • Strong customer service skills
