About the role
Children's Hearing and Speech Centre of BC is an independent Listening and Spoken Language Centre providing services to children and their families from birth through Grade 3 (on site) and to mainstreamed students in grades K-12 throughout BC. www.childrenshearing.ca.
We are hiring two experienced, full-time listening and spoken language trained teachers of the deaf and hard of hearing to be a part of our team that provides in-person services in our on-site classes, and in-person and tele-therapy itinerant services to students in grades K-12. These are permanent, full-time positions, beginning as soon as possible. Part-time positions could be considered for the right candidates.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Masters degree in deaf education with an emphasis on listening and spoken language
- BC Teacher's certificate
- Classroom teaching experience; general education and specialized classes for children who are deaf and hard of hearing an asset
- Minimum two years experience
- Car and valid driver's license (only required for Itinerant position)
- Must be fully vaccinated for Covid-19. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
Job Description - Classroom:
- Develop individual goals for children and their families in collaboration with the SLP
- Facilitate language-rich learning activities that support growth in all areas, including audition, receptive and expressive language, speech, cognition, social pragmatics and pre-academics
- Preparation of regular progress reports/report cards
Job Description - Itinerant:
- Assessment of auditory, language and speech skills
- Goal setting and direct services for auditory, language and speech skills, as well as academics and pragmatics/social skill building when required
- Curriculum support
- Recommendations to school staff on ways to make appropriate adaptations in the classroom
- Assist the enrolling school team in developing, writing and updating IEP's
- Preparation of semi-annual progress reports
Benefits:
- Salary is competitive, based on experience ($74,000 to $106,000)
- Includes pension and comprehensive benefits package
- Ample paid vacation time - position follows school calendar (September to June) with 2 weeks off for winter break, 1 week for spring break, 5 break days during the year, and July/August off
- Funding available for professional development (5 professional development days per year)
- Opportunities for ongoing mentorship
