Salary Range: $31.80 - $34.25 hourly
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week
Classification: CUPE Outside Class 5
Status: Temporary full-time (up to 3 months)

The Opportunity:
The Survey Technician performs field surveys required by the Engineering and Public Works Department for
planning, design, construction, quality assurance, or information purposes.
What you will do:
- Perform field surveys as required for informational, pre-engineering planning, design, construction and
quality assurance purposes. Works alone or as part of a team to complete required tasks.
- Obtain and compile all relevant field data in a digital format using optical total station equipment, Global
Positioning Systems and other surveying equipment as required.
- Undertake searches of Registry Office and obtain or request all pertinent documentation related to
assigned survey tasks.
- Perform the establishment of horizontal and vertical monumentation and control within the applicable co-
ordinate and projection systems as required for assigned tasks.
- Process, retain, and transfer all digital survey data to engineering application software for use by project
staff. Maintain detailed records of work completed to support future verification or reference.

Perform analysis and calculations of collected data and ensure quality assurance.

Verify work is within specifications and provide observation or recommendations to project team.

Ensure that surveying instruments, computer equipment, vehicles and supplies used by the survey team
are protected and maintained in good working order.
- Recommend to the Survey Chief any maintenance, replacement, or purchase of new materials and
equipment as required to support the efficient day-to-day operations of the survey team.
- Assume the duties of the Survey Chief during absences, including supervision and work assignments of
the survey team.
- Assist with complaints, enquiries and requests for technical information from the public and acts as liaison
for the District office as required.
What you will need:
- Certified Technician (C.Tech) or a combination of education and experience to qualify for OACETT as a
minimum of C.Tech.

Three to four years survey experience.

Working knowledge of survey practices, standards, and procedures.

Working knowledge of current methods of collecting, downloading, and manipulating electronic data.

Must be able to deal tactfully and courteously with contractors, property owners and members of the public.

Excellent computer skills and general knowledge of the requirements of Computer Aided Design and
Drafting (CADD).
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
