Position Description

Position Summary
Reporting to the Supervisor of Payroll Services, the Financial Analyst, Payroll supports both Compensation and Benefit functions within the payroll department and plays an integral role in performing regular audits, analysis and reporting ensuring data integrity is maintained for the hospital. The Financial Analyst, Payroll is also responsible for analyzing employee records to ensure accuracy in employee compensation and benefit data. This position also plays a key role in supporting regular and ongoing Benefit audits and supports the Compensation Consultant with large ad hoc and cyclical projects.

What We are Looking For

  • Minimum of a Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma (3 years) in Technology, Human Resources, Business or Finance (Essential)

  • NPI certified PCP (Payroll Compliance Professional) required

  • Minimum 3 years experience processing payroll of a large size organization (6,000 or more employees), including experience with payroll accounting and the processing and reconciliation of government and other remittances

  • Experience with Workday and UKG Dimensions preferred

  • Advanced computer skills, including MS Office with Word, PowerPoint, Access, and in particular Excel; experience with HR and Finance applications, preferably Infor Infinium would be a definite asset

  • Testing may be required as part of the selection process

  • Exceptional organizational skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to multi-task and prioritize to meet multiple deadlines

  • Strong analytical, quantitative and problem-solving skills; able to research and translate complex technical data into accurate and meaningful analyses and reports

  • Excellent interpersonal and business writing skills to effectively communicate technical and information that is easily understood by stakeholders and team members

  • Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to develop and establish effective working relationships with key stakeholders, resolve and respond to inquiries in a timely and professional manner

  • Demonstrated understanding of legal regulations with regards to a hospital setting, e.g. CRA, multiple collective agreements in a unionized environment, HOOPP Pension, EHT, WSIB etc

  • Proven ability to solve problems with diplomacy and tact

  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively in a tightly knit team and individually

Your Mission

  • Understand and adhere to legislation, collective agreements and hospital policies and procedures as it pertains to payroll
  • Provide and act as a functional analyst for payroll applications
  • Review, analyze, evaluate and make recommendations for improvements to the operation of payroll and related tools
  • Ensure the integrity of the payroll information through the validation and audit of the payroll system
  • Review, analyze and provide solutions upon determination of the errors and corrections in UKG/Workday in Integration Error Logs.
  • Maintain documentation, records, manuals, and the hospital intranet website
  • Monitor changes from different unions under established collective agreements and federal and provincial legislation changes; work with the Payroll Supervisor, HR and Payroll to test and implement changes on a timely basis
  • Prepare complex employee file changes, including but not limited to, status changes, tax information, benefit arrears, etc. Responsible for employee overpayments claw back and system adjustments
  • In collaboration with Human Resources, ensure employee vacation banks and other time owing, is accurately accounted for and reported
  • Ensure the protection of Hospital resources from theft, fraud and misappropriation
  • Adhere to all in-year and year-end reporting requirements and provide ad hoc reporting support, ensuring that all federal and provincial requirements are met
  • Responsible for providing ad hoc support and engagement during the year-end audit
  • Develop a customized report library and respond to ad hoc report requests from various stakeholders as they pertain to payroll
  • Provide knowledge and advice regarding Payroll related metrics to provide the most effective data and approach to gathering information for client business needs
  • Responsible for creation and execution of audit reports that verify and ensure employee data integrity and compliance with policy
  • Ensure integrity and maintain confidentiality of HR and pay data
  • Write a variety of documents including but not limited to correspondence, letters, reports, and presentation slides
  • Ensure exceptional customer service at all levels
  • Maintain relationships with various stakeholders ensuring service standards are being met, including response times for payroll related inquiries
  • Engage and educate stakeholders on the payroll administration processes and requirements
  • Develop partnerships with key internal stakeholders
  • Support issue resolution with respect to payroll
