Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person work at North Campus Edmonton.

The SPOR Research Coordinator will oversee the development and expansion of the SPOR (Strategy for Patient Oriented Research) Primary and Integrated Health Care Innovation Network (PIHCIN) component of the province-wide, multi-stakeholder, multi-component, collaborative Primary Care Research Networks (PCRNs). The SPOR Research Coordinator will manage all aspects of the initiative and maintain positive relationships with government, health system, and research stakeholders, with particular reference to the other PCRN components and SPOR PIHCINs in other provinces and territories.

  • Overall project management and coordination of all Alberta SPOR PIHCIN development activities.
  • Initiate and maintain good relationships with community-based primary care clinics that are members of Alberta PCRNs and the CPCSSN (Canadian Primary Care Sentinel Surveillance Network).
  • Establish and maintain good communication and working relationships with the various PCRNs components: SAPCReN, NAPCReN, CPCSSN, the Pragmatic Trials Collaborative, ARCH advanced analytics, EnACt, Primus, the AHS Primary Care Integration Network and their primary care physicians and clinic staff, practice facilitators, academics, government, university departments, Alberta Health Services, Alberta Health, and other stakeholders.
  • Manage reporting to granting agencies.
  • Monitor budget and deliverables, scheduling and assigning of project resources in consultation with the Tripartite SPOR leadership.
  • Chair standing meetings including the AB PIHCIN Tripartite Leadership meetings, provide leadership to the national PIHCIN managers committee and support to the PIHCIN National Coordinating Office.
  • Coordinate and contribute to the preparation of proposals for SPOR PIHCIN funding in collaboration with the Tripartite Leads, the PIHCIN National Coordinating Office and the Alberta SPOR SUPPORT Unit
  • Contribute to the writing, formatting, and submission of grant applications.
  • Participate in the preparation of presentations, abstracts, and publications.
  • Travel to clinic sites and other locations in Alberta for the purposes of PIHCIN recruitment, and across Canada for national PIHCIN management and research dissemination purposes.

Education/Knowledge:

  • Master's degree in health sciences, social sciences, or related area. Equivalencies may be considered. PhD preferred.
  • Training in quantitative and qualitative research methods.
  • Working knowledge and experience in computer software applications (SAS, STATA, SPSS, Python, MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, email, internet, etc.) is essential.
  • Excellent writing/editing skills.

Experience/Skills:

  • At least 5 years of experience in health care or social sciences, with preference given to those with experience in primary health care, research network development, research or program evaluation in the Canadian health context.
  • Significant planning and project management experience.
  • Knowledge of the guidelines involving the ethical conduct of research in humans. Experience using REMO/ARISE is an asset.
  • Experience in research administration is an asset.
  • Experience in developing research project budgets.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills, including team leadership and management.
  • Experience in writing or managing grant proposals for academic research is an asset.
  • Ability to work independently, energetic and self-motivated.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, administrative, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Conscientious, with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Familiarity with federal granting agency (e.g. CIHR, SSHRC) requirements and funding opportunities is an asset.
  • Experience with policies and procedures at the University of Alberta is an asset.
  • Must possess a valid Alberta Class 5 (non-GDL) driver’s license with access to a vehicle (or equivalent).
