As a member of the Calgary Police Service (CPS) Leadership Team, you will be expected to foster an inclusive leadership approach that promotes equity, diversity and inclusion, as well as psychological and physical safety. As a strategic decision-maker, you will possess political acumen and have experience in leading transformational change and enabling innovation.

As the Director, Human Resources (HR) Services Section you will be responsible for developing and executing HR strategies within a multi-union work environment to support service-wide goals and objectives. You will provide advice and recommendations to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) on HR programs, policies and services while also providing leadership and oversight to Business Partnerships Unit and the Talent Acquisition Unit. Primary duties include:

  • Build and maintain collaborative partnerships across CPS, The City of Calgary and external policing agencies and partners.
  • Work collaboratively with section leaders to develop and monitor business plans, resources and budgets to ensure successful achievement of Division strategic goals and objectives.
  • Use data analysis and industry best practices to identify trends and opportunities to improve processes and procedures across all facets of HR.
  • Provide expert advice on Labor Relations (LR) issues and maintain effective working relationships with our union partners.
  • Assist leadership to develop performance management solutions through feedback mechanisms, roles and responsibility clarification and competency development.
  • Provide direction and oversight on LR and HR policy development.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Human Resources (HR) or a related field and at least 10 years of progressive experience providing HR advice, guidance, and leadership, from both an operational and corporate perspective.
  • At least 5 years of experience in senior management level role(s).
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Proven expertise in workplace investigations; best practices and knowledge of collective agreements and their application is critical for success in this role with preference given to applicants with direct experience in Labour Relations.
  • Experience in law enforcement and/or justice-based environment will be considered an asset.
  • A Certified Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation, or a related professional designation will be considered an asset.
  • Success in this position requires critical thinking; emotional intelligence; creating and sustaining safe, respectful and inclusive workplaces; promoting supportive, balanced and professional accountability; building and maintaining relationships; developing self and others; striving for results.

Pre-employment Requirements

  • An enhanced security clearance will be conducted.
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. Education obtained from out of country must have or be able to obtain, an Education Credential Assessment (ECA) for confirmation of equivalent credentials.

Business Unit: Calgary Police Services

Union: Exempt

Position Type: 1 Permanent

Compensation: Level M3 $159,610 - 199,512 per annum

Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week.

Days of work: This position works a 5 day work week with 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.

Location: 5111 - 47 Street N.E.
