DUTIES Reporting to the Associate Registrar, the Academic Advisor is responsible for the development and implementation of University College of

the North educational information program, and to oversee student advising for all Community Based UCN students as assigned. Student

services will include learning skill advisement; course selections and degree requirements; personal, financial, academic advising; student

appeals, and mediations. The Academic Advisor is part of a team of professionals that provide a broad range of student support services to

students. The Academic Advisor will work closely with Education and Training Coordinators, Community Education Coordinators, Inter-
Universities Services (IUS), and Faculty.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• A degree in Counselling or Social Sciences; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

• Direct experience in a fast-paced service-centered and/or academic centered role evaluating complex student academic needs

• Experience with interpreting, applying and advising on policies and procedures

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

• Strong analytical critical thinking skills

• Ability to work as part of a team to facilitate the student’s learning process

• Excellent computer skills with proficiency in MS Office 365 and internet searching

• Ability to manage sensitive information and maintain confidentiality

• Strong time management and organizational skills

• Ability to understand cultural influences and issues specific to adult learners in northern communities

• Commitment to life-long learning
