Job Summary:

This role serves Nuclear-specific professional development programming offered by the Continuous Learning unit in collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, through its Department of Energy and Nuclear Engineering at Ontario Tech University. It reports to the Director, Continuous Learning, and provides instructional support for the highly regulated Advanced Operations Overview for Managers (AOOM) program and for any other nuclear training programs offered by Ontario Tech, Continuous Learning. Additionally, this role supports specific professional development programming within Continuous Learning.

Responsibilities/accountabilities:

  • Consultation with instructors before, during and after the course is offered
  • Preparation and updating of program materials
  • Responsible for technical accuracy of lecture notes, as verified by the supervisor and assisted by the instructor
  • Coordination of printing and distribution of program materials which includes quality assurance and accuracy with delivery in a timely manner
  • Providing direct support of instructors through communications, material creation and organization, and during classes. This includes attending all classes/lectures to document course material for learners, keeping track of the schedule being observed and suggesting changes if needed
  • Providing support with assessments, as requested by instructors/facilitators. This includes assisting instructors in preparing tests and assignments, marking and preparing statistics regarding grade distribution and sending tests back to participants
  • Uploading and administration of tests
  • Answering questions submitted in chat during the test
  • Tracking test marks, and discussing problem areas/questions with instructors that should be included in the test review
  • Writing textbooks or other materials(sometimes based on transcription of oral lectures) for each assigned training course based on previous videos or material prepared by the instructors. This might require preparing a draft and revising based on feedback, comments and needed changes according to the instructors’ indications
  • Managing and proper handling of confidential and proprietary materials
  • Coordinating with the instructors and/or the Director of Industry training associated with the program/course
  • Participating in meetings with industry partners and providing input to determine needs and formats and timing of new training courses to be offered
  • Support new course creation as required, including badging micro-credentials where applicable
  • Other duties as required

Required Skills:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills Excellent communication skill to be able to interface efficiently with Nuclear Engineering Training instructors
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated experience in Office, Adobe, Photoshop and similar tools to be able to edit material provided by instructors
  • Demonstrated experience with learning technologies, including learning management systems, where necessary to support instructors
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously under tight deadlines
  • Ability to identify stakeholder needs and opportunities within a highly regulated industry
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills including report writing and presentation skills, effective interpersonal skills, discretion, judgement, tact and diplomacy

Required Education:

  • Completion of a University Program consisting of Four Academic Years or Equivalent, (Science or Engineering preferred)
  • An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered
  • Verification of Academic credentials may be required

Required Experience:

  • Up to and including 1 year of experience
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered for the position
