Employment Status Full Time Employment Type Regular Job Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Infrastructure Maintenance with day-to-day supervision provided by the Director, Quesnel Campus and Community Engagement, the incumbent will be responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the physical plant and grounds of the Quesnel campus. This position participates in the development of work plans and provides technical leadership where required, in addition to performing regular maintenance and grounds keeping duties.
Specific Duties
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and conduct general maintenance on building systems, including boilers, heating controls, and plumbing.
- Perform architectural repairs, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC and painting duties.
- Assist in college operations and events, not limited to event set-up, snow removal, driving duties, general clean up.
- Carry out emergency procedures such as fire alarms and evacuations.
- Secure the facility ensuring all doors and windows are locked; intruder alarm is activated and notifying appropriate officials in the event of an emergency.
- Assume overall responsibility for the physical plant and grounds.
- Operate computerized energy/security management system as required.
- In collaboration with Facilities Services Management, determine building maintenance cycles and locate most suitable vendor or contractor for various needs.
- Determine facility services, space requirements, and equipment and material needs for campus.
- Perform regular scheduling of facilities operations equipment.
- Lead, guide, delegate, and monitor custodians and trades/technical contractors.
- Maintain maintenance logs.
- Assess and determine action needed for inappropriate or potentially violent behaviour.
- Monitor use of classrooms and offices to ensure only college sanctioned activities and users are on the premises.
- Clean and maintain floors, walls, windows, furniture, fixtures and equipment.
- Perform minor repairs and maintain fixtures, furniture and equipment.
- Perform improvements, maintenance and cleaning for building and exterior grounds.
- Maintain tools and equipment.
- Provide first aid as required.
- Perform duties of Maintenance Grounds Person as required.
- You will be part of a team actively engaged in contributing to and accomplishing the vision, mission, and goals of the College in supporting the aspirations and needs of our learners.
- You will promote a positive work atmosphere by interacting and communicating in a professional manner that demonstrates mutual respect with students and colleagues.
- Other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Skills & Qualifications

High School completion or equivalent
-
3 years or more experience in institutional/commercial building and grounds maintenance, or proven equivalent education and experience.
-
Previous custodial experience preferred.
-
Previous leadership or supervisory experience an asset.

Working knowledge and experience is required in:
-
General maintenance and repair of institutional/commercial buildings and grounds.
-
Operation, maintenance, and repair of all related tools and equipment.
-
Operation and maintenance of grounds and irrigation systems.
-
Hard landscaping and grounds features, concrete, pavers, asphalt etc.
-
Parking lot maintenance
-
Safe work practices
-
A valid BC class 7 (N Status) or higher driver’s license preferred or be willing to obtain.
-
Must have Intermediate First Aid or willing to attain within the 3 months.

Certification in one or more of the following or the ability to acquire within 6 months of hire:
-
Locksmithing.
-
Installation, maintenance and repair of commercial window and door glazing systems.

Maintenance and repair of tools and equipment.
-
Forklift
-
Elevated work platform
-
Good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Good organizational skills.
-
Experience with computers and maintenance work order software systems is preferred.

Sound judgement and problem-solving skills

Ability to maintain confidentiality

A good knowledge of most trades
-
Mechanically inclined; trade qualification in a related field an asset

Knowledge of institutional or industrial mechanical operation systems an asset

Experience with the operation of Direct Digital Controls (DDC) an asset

Ability to perform semi-skilled minor mechanical and building repairs

Ability to complete the physical demands of the position
