About the role

School District No. 52 Prince Rupert is currently accepting applications for casual on call Custodian positions. This position is casual and hours are assigned on an as required basis. The Custodial department works the afternoon shift. Shifts typically fall within 3:00pm-11:30pm.

A custodian:

  • Maintains the facility in a clean and sanitary manner according to approved work schedules and procedures.
  • Performs minor maintenance work as required.
  • Reports immediately to the Head Custodian or Custodial Foreperson any unusual circumstances or incidents that may have occurred during their shift.

Required qualifications and abilities are:

  • Grade 10 or equivalent.
  • Building Service Worker Course Certificate or equivalent is preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year work experience as a custodian or building service worker in a commercial or industrial setting or an equivalent combination of training, education or experience.
  • Must have WHMIS Certificate.
  • Knowledge of WCB regulations and safe work practices.
  • Ability to operate and maintain appropriate tools and equipment.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Physical ability to perform the job duties.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with the public and staff.
  • Must have the ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality in dealing with all matters pertaining to students and staff.
  • Must practice all School District and WCB safety policies.

Hours of Work: Varied hours per day based on call out needs.

Successful applicants will be required to undergo a Criminal Records Review.

The terms and conditions of the IUOE Collective Agreement will apply.
