The District of West Vancouver’s Parks Department is seeking a Contract Term Full-Time Cemetery Attendant at Capilano View Cemetery. Reporting to the Cemetery Foreperson, the Cemetery Attendant will be part of a small team that performs a wide variety of tasks and takes pride in being proactive and innovative in its operations. Most of the work for this position is considered manual labour, requiring effort and stamina. The ability to think constructively and to problem-solve are considered important assets. Assignments vary and can include the care of lawns, gardens, and grounds; cemetery tasks including burials; various landscape work; and customer service, including interacting with individuals and families coping with loss. This position offers significant and interesting variety for a labour role, as well as the opportunity to receive related training like backhoe operation.
The preferred candidate will possess:
- Experience and general knowledge concerning safe use of landscape and maintenance equipment including mowers and backhoe;
- Sufficient physical strength, stamina and coordination to permit the performance of manual outdoor work in all types of weather;
- Have an aptitude/ interest in Cemetery operations.
- Sensitivity, professionalism and a team-focused, can-do attitude are desirable attributes.
- The candidate must hold a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License for the Province of BC.
The successful candidate will be required to supply a police information check and a copy of their credentials. During the assessment process, successful candidates will be required to submit an acceptable Driver’s Abstract from ICBC.

Position Status:
Union (WVMEA) – Contract-Term Temporary Full-Time
Hours of Work:
40 hours per week (hours and days of work may vary)
Starting Rate of Pay:
$36.79 per hour (2025 rate) plus 14% in lieu of benefits
After 3 months of continuous service, Contract Term Temporary employees shall be provided with a one (1) time choice between receiving the same benefit, vacation, statutory holidays and leave provisions as permanent employees or fourteen percent (14%) of regular salary in lieu of all benefits. This position has a pay structure with three steps increase after certain hours.
