About the Role
The Intermediate Accountant is responsible for supporting the financial operations of Alpha House, including financial reporting, reconciliations, budgeting support, and maintaining accurate financial records. This role plays a key part in ensuring financial integrity and compliance while supporting the organization’s programs and services. In this role, your responsibilities will include:

Supporting month end and year end close processes, including journal entries and account reconciliations

Preparing and maintaining accurate financial records in accordance with accounting standards and organizational policies
-
Assisting with the preparation of financial statements, reports, and variance analysis
-
Supporting budgeting and forecasting processes in collaboration with program managers
-
Reconciling bank accounts, credit cards, and general ledger accounts
-
Monitoring and tracking expenses to ensure alignment with budgets and funding requirements
-
Assisting with audits, including preparing documentation and responding to auditor requests
-
Supporting accounts payable and receivable functions as needed
-
Ensuring compliance with internal controls, policies, and procedures
-
Assisting with grant and funder reporting requirements
-
Identifying opportunities for process improvements and increased efficiency
-
Providing financial support and guidance to internal stakeholders
-
Supporting agency wide financial initiatives and projects
About You
We are looking for a detail oriented and analytical professional to join our team at Alpha House. The ideal candidate will have:

Post secondary education in accounting, finance, or a related field
-
Progress toward or completion of a professional accounting designation such as CPA is considered an asset
-
Several years of accounting experience, preferably in a non-profit or public sector environment
-
Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
-
Experience with general ledger reconciliations, journal entries, and financial analysis
-
Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
-
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
-
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams
-
Sound judgment, professionalism, and the ability to handle sensitive financial information with confidentiality
-
Ability to work independently, take initiative, and adapt in a dynamic environment
-
Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office
-
Experience with accounting systems is considered an asset
-
