Reporting to the Senior Manager, Risk, Insurance and Claims, the Emergency Management Coordinator plans, develops, coordinates, evaluates and maintains the City’s Emergency Management Program and associated protocols, processes, and relationships across all emergency management phases. This position plays an integral part during activation of the Emergency Operations Centre and provides occasional on-call Emergency Support Services assistance during periods of emergency response. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 supplemented by Emergency Management Certificate, Business Continuity Course, plus considerable experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. The role requires considerable knowledge of: philosophy, principles, objectives, policies, regulations, practices and procedures of the City’s Emergency Management Program; emergency management legislation, responsibilities and obligations in British Columbia; standard operating procedures, communication protocols and processes related to the Emergency Operations Centre. This role requires the ability to plan, develop, coordinate, evaluate and maintain the Emergency Management Program; respond to field emergencies and coordinate the response of City resources in significant emergency operations; develop, promote, evaluate and organize training and workshops; establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts and to provide advice, information and assistance to same; oversee, direct, and support the work of volunteers; and communicate effectively orally and in writing and to make presentations. The role also requires skill in the use of various software applications. Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia is required.
