Hours**:** 7 hours per day
Salary : $84,393 base salary + OT hours ($92.74/hour)

This position is 100% in-person at the VSB Education Centre (1580 West Broadway)

Responsibilities:

  • Perform month end, quarter end and year end procedures
  • Review and maintain accounting records as assigned, which includes reconciliations and analysis
  • Prepare schedules, documentation and support financial reporting in accordance with accounting standards
  • Support budgets and prepare financial analysis and make recommendations to improve processes and procedures
  • May be assigned to lead a team of accounting staff (includes office support and lower technical resource bands) which includes training, scheduling, reviewing of work
  • Prepares forecasts and financial reporting
  • Investigates variances, and initiates corrective action when necessary, with supervisory review
  • Liaises with internal budget holders to support financial acumen and financial reporting requirements and policies and external parties such as auditors, suppliers, vendors and third-party donations
  • Prepares ad hoc analysis and reporting of a wide range of data sets for both internal and external audiences
  • Provides technical support to the accounting team and finance division as required
  • Performs other duties within the job band as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Valid CPA designation required
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive accounting experience required
  • Thorough knowledge and experience with Canadian generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) required and knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS) is considered an asset
  • Experience working in supporting the budget process within a publicly funded organization is considered an asset
  • Candidates must possess proven ability to: establish priorities and meet tight and possibly conflicting deadlines, work independently as well as in a team environment, apply good judgement, and problem solve
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, as well as strong analytical skills, data manipulation and Excel skills required
  • Experience with PeopleSoft Financials (or another tier 1 Enterprise Resource Planning software) preferred
  • Must be able to meet the following assessments: Excel (70%) and applicable Accounting

** **COMPENSATION

The salary for this position is $84,393 plus a comprehensive benefits package, including Municipal Pension Plan, Vancouver Employee Savings Plan, Extended Health, Dental, Group Life, Long Term Disability, Vacation, & Gratuity Days. Pre-approved OT is paid double-time ($92.74/hour).
