About the role
The Orthopaedic program is looking for a motivated and adaptable Orthopaedic Technician to support various inpatient units, Fracture clinic and mobility clinics.
Working under the direction of Physician(s) and/or Orthopaedic Technologist, and in collaboration with other members of the health care team, the primary responsibility of the Orthopaedic Technician include:
- Assisting Orthopaedic Surgeon(s) and occasionally Plastics Surgeon(s) with preventing or correcting disorders of the locomotor structures of the body, e.g. skeleton, muscles, joints, ligaments, cartilage, etc.
- Providing expertise in plaster and synthetic cast application;
- Providing care and information to patients with orthopaedic problems through the application, adjustment and removal of a variety of casts, splits and traction fittings;
- Providing information/education to staff and patient to facilitate optimal results.
Qualifications:
- Current registration with the Canadian Society of Orthopaedic Technologists (as an Associate or Full Member) or become certified as an Orthopaedic Technologist within one year.
- Graduate of a recognized Community College Orthopaedic Technology program.
- One year of recent related clinical experience preferred
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, team oriented environment
- Experience fitting orthopaedic appliances preferred
- Satisfactory attendance record
