Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Director of Operations East Canada - Poles, the Project and Continuous Improvement Coordinator plays a key role in monitoring and optimizing manufacturing processes and developing the company's growth. They act as an operational pivot between capital project management (CAPEX), the improvement and monitoring of manufacturing processes (Operational Excellence), and the implementation of continuous improvement methods (Lean, VSM, PVA, 5S, Kaizen) to increase our overall OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness).
Responsibilities:
- Project Management (CAPEX)
- Evaluate the technical and financial viability of investment projects (CAPEX) with plant managers and prepare Return on Investment (ROI) analyses.
- Develop detailed project plans including critical path, design, and risk management, and support the PGP (Project Management Process) as well as contingency plans.
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise facility improvement projects (new equipment, production line modifications, compliance upgrades), in collaboration with our corporate project management team and plant directors.
- Manage schedules, budgets, and resources required for the smooth execution of projects in collaboration with plant directors.
- Liaise with external suppliers, contractors, and internal teams (maintenance, production, engineering, OT, IT, corporate project management, etc.).
- Supervise the startup of new equipment and ensure the transition to operations teams (knowledge transfer, training, technical documentation, etc.).
- Ensure compliance with Health and Safety (H&S) standards during project execution.
- Continuous Improvement
- Identify operational inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and sources of waste.
- Facilitate continuous improvement meetings (Kaizen) and implement Lean Manufacturing tools (5S, SMED, Kanban, VSM, etc.).
- Use statistical and continuous improvement tools to diagnose root causes of quality or productivity problems (5 Whys, Ishikawa diagram).
- Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and visual aids to ensure the sustainability of improvements, and coordinate with the quality team (ISO).
- Implement, train, and analyze performance indicators (KPI/OEE) to measure productivity gains in order to propose and target improvement opportunities.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and change by training and coaching floor staff and our managers.
- Analysis and Processes (Process Engineering)
- Conduct data, value, or efficiency analyses to justify investment decisions or changes to work methods, processes, automation, etc.
- Document Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and ensure they are updated with the quality team (ISO).
- Prepare progress reports for management (CAPEX, Operational Excellence, or Continuous Improvement).
- Monitor, analyze, and optimize our manufacturing and wood treatment processes
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (industrial, mechanical, or other relevant field) or a DEC in industrial management with significant experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role in a manufacturing/industrial environment.
- Proficiency in French and English, both spoken and written – for communication purposes with production and corporate stakeholders in other provinces.
- Certification Lean Six Sigma - Green Belt or Black Belt
- OIQ membership (an asset)
- Technical Skills:
- Excellent command of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Excellent command of project management.
- Excellent understanding of wood manufacturing and treatment processes is an asset.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite.
- Knowledge of project management software (MS Project or equivalent) is an asset
- Interpersonal Skills:
- Mobilizing leadership and ability to manage change.
- Analytical mind and complex problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both with plant employees, managers, and members of management.
