The Program – Respite Care Connection

Are you passionate about ensuring all children and youth have the opportunity to access fun and educational programs? The Respite Care Connection promotes, strengthens, and preserves the right for children with developmental disabilities to have a stable home environment. The program works toward this goal by providing caregivers with time to take care of themselves and their families while their child is in respite. The Respite Care Connection is a community-based program for children and youth aged 6-17 years.

The Position – Day Camp Counselor/Respite Care Facilitator

Reporting to the Program Supervisor, the Day Camp Counselor/Respite Care Facilitator provides specialized support for children and youth through planning and facilitation support of recreational and educational activities that enrich participants’ skills and self-esteem through both fun and experiential learning opportunities. Clients have diagnoses such as ADHD, FASD, and ASD.

This role involves promoting a positive and safe environment for work and play utilizing a strength-based approach with a ration of one staff to three children/youth. The Facilitator establishes and maintains positive relationships with children, youth, parents, community, and team members.

The Day Camp Counselor/Respite Care Facilitator actively supports all Enviros’ policies and procedures, health, safety, and reporting protocols and provides program support as needed ensuring accreditation

standards are consistently met. The Day Camp Counselor position is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities

Summer Camp Leadership & Facilitation

  • Report directly to Program Supervisor

  • Support and participate in planning, reporting, cleaning, and administration duties

  • Key contributor to the organization and implementation of educational and recreation summer camp activities

  • Function as a responsible and collaborative communicator with team members, supervisors, parents, and participants

  • Adhere to program standards and licensing as required

  • Apply a strength-based and trauma informed care approach toward all activities with participants, following all safety and care directives as outlined in individualized care plans

  • Active participant in constant vigilance of upkeeping safe and healthy work environment

  • Other duties as required

Eligibility

Applicants must be between the ages of 18-30 years at the start of employment, be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act: and, be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

Job Type: Full-Time Pay: $18/hour

The Successful Applicant will have the following qualifications

  • Some experience supporting children & youth with complex needs (e.g., ASD, FASD) is a

strong asset

  • Current Alberta Intervention Record Check

  • Current Criminal Record Check Including Vulnerable Sector Check

  • Current First Aid/CPR level C

  • Full Valid Class 5 license and Clean Driving Record

  • Have a vehicle in good condition that can be used for work

  • Highly organized with strong communication and reporting
