Job Title: Junior High Teacher - Mathematics and Grade 8/9 (.6/.4 FTE)
Location: 'Na Aksa Gyilak'yoo School - Kitsumkalum, BC
Reports to: Principal
Position Overview:
'Na Aksa Gyilak'yoo School is seeking a passionate and dedicated educator to join our tea in a combined as a Grade 7 - 9 Mathematics Teacher (.6) and Grade 8/9 (.4) Classroom Teacher. This position is ideal for someone who value holistic education and is committed to integrating Tsimshian Language and Culture into daily teaching practices.
Key Responsibilities
Mathematics (.6):
- Plan and deliver engaging mathematic instruction across multiple grade levels
- Support students in developing mathematical competency
- Collaborate with staff to implement school-wide mathematic initiatives
- Use assessment data to inform instruction and support student growth
Grade 8/9 Classroom (.4):
- Teach core subjects including science, social studies, and art
- Create a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs
Cultural Integration:
- Embed Tsimshian language and cultural teachings into all aspects of the curriculum
- Collaborate with elders, cultural workers, and community members to enrich student learning
- Participate in cultural events and ceremonies as part of the school community
Qualifications:
- BC Teaching Certificate (or eligibility for certification)
- Experience teaching mathematics and/or junior high grades
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn Tsimshian language and cultural practices
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
- Commitment to Indigenous education and reconciliation
