About the role

Some of what you will do :

We are seeking a Manager of Data Enablement and Analytics to oversee and own our data processes, enabling analysts around the company and within our team to use federated data. They will be responsible for enterprise reports that are used by a variety of audiences across teams within Staples.

As part of the Analytics Engineering team, this Manager will be responsible for the Analytics enterprise data warehouse effort and data accuracy. They will partner with the Information Technology team and be hands-on within the platform and development effort of the analytics data layer.

The role will have multiple customers across Analytics, Product, Marketing, Finance, and Engineering and IT and they will work collaboratively with them to build, maintain, and document our data and build capabilities to enforce governance, data sync/propagation, and privacy management, allowing them to easily use data to build remarkable analytics solutions.

We believe strongly in automation over manual processes and bias towards action. The candidate will collaborate with a highly talented team of analytics engineers, data scientists, data analysts, product owners, and can demonstrate their strong depth of knowledge related to data platforms and delivering value from it. All while working closely with partners to ingest, store and activate to deliver business value to the organization.

This position represents an ideal role for a highly motivated and highly analytical individual. We are a highly collaborative, agile work environment, so the ideal candidate would demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and excellent technical depth. The successful candidate will be passionate about data and have a strong foundation of data management concepts and engineering methodologies, with a passion for new ideas.

Specifically you will:

Data Enablement (40%):

  • Collaborate with IT and business stakeholders to capture requirements, ingest, and make data available in our data warehouse.
  • Play a vital role in data migration efforts to the Cloud, prioritizing existing data locations with business partners, aligning with IT Dev, communicating, and building a roadmap.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert across all types of data sources utilized company-wide.
  • Partner to integrate and maintain the quality of third-party enterprise data (e.g., Klaviyo, PIM, Shopify, Google, Meta, etc.).
  • Take ownership of, improve, and empower analysts to leverage our Customer360 data and reporting layers.
  • Establish and reinforce governance: maintain schema, lineage, and discoverability of data throughout our entire data warehouse.

Reporting (35%):

  • Develop and maintain divisional/baseline Looker & Power BI reports for universal use across the company.
  • Manage the Looker platform to optimize speed, efficiency, and cost.
  • Conduct technical analysis, estimate level-of-effort, design, maintain, and develop Looker explores, and implement applications.
  • Establish best practices, create reporting templates, and implement governance around them.

Enablement (15%):

  • Collaborate with cross-functional groups to establish best practices, including the adoption of new tools (e.g., GitHub), and assist other analysts in adopting best practices and the established governance model.
  • Work with internal and external partners to develop training and upskilling initiatives for analysts across the enterprise.
  • Conduct monthly/quarterly analyst-group town halls and meetings to communicate changes, share best practices, and foster an analytics community mindset.

Some of what you need:

  • BS / BA, preferably in Mathematics or Computer sciences or any other quantitative discipline
  • 3+ years of experience in retail and ecommerce, including working with various types of data (web event-based, transactional, supply chain, financial, etc.).
  • 3+ years of experience in SQL, with working experience in Python, and DBT skills are an asset.
  • 3+ years of experience with GCP, preferred courses/certificates for GCP.
  • 3+ years of experience working with Power BI and Looker.
  • Experience in building reports in Looker, extensive experience working with LookML, and designing Explores on top of hundreds of gigabytes of data.
  • Experience working in Agile delivery teams, completing sprint assignments, including story development, refinement, and execution using JIRA or similar tools.
  • Experience in system design, troubleshooting, advocating for customers' needs, and triaging technical issues.
  • Experience with data warehouse design and concepts, working knowledge of Data Governance concepts and tools, and implementation.
  • Exhibits well-developed verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrates organizational and multitasking skills within a rapidly changing environment.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to manage own workload with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and train analysts on Data Engineering concepts and governance. Ability to question directions/roadmaps/plans in a manner that is insightful and respectful
