The Opportunity

Disability Programs, Community Living Service Delivery is seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic individual who has a genuine desire to support people with intellectual disabilities to join our team as a Cook, Seasonal Respite. This position is located at Camp Thunderbird, Candle Lake Provincial Park.

In this position, you will:

  • Lead the planning, preparation and serving of 3 meals a day for up to 45 people ensuring alignment with the principles of the Canada Food Guide.
  • Ensure all meals meet a wide range of complex dietary needs, including allergies, intolerances, medical diets, and cultural or religious requirements.
  • Lead menu planning and food procurement activities by forecasting needs, ordering supplies and managing inventory with a focus on fiscal responsibility, ensuring cost-effective purchasing.
  • Responsible to ensure all kitchen equipment is properly maintained, cleaned and operated according to safety and sanitation standards, including routine inspections, reporting repairs and promoting a safe efficient work environment.
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary kitchen environment at all times by adhering to food safety regulations, including proper food handling, storage, cleaning procedures.
  • Supervise, train, support, coach, and monitor the kitchen support staff to ensure program objectives are met.
  • Work effectively and positively alongside coworkers, direct reports, and the management team, ensuring service excellence in the kitchen.

Typically, the knowledge and abilities required for this position would be obtained through completion of a Journeyperson certificate in cooking.

This role may require travel for the purpose of program delivery. As a team member, you will be respectful of the diversity of others and promote a healthy, inclusive, productive, and safe work environment that is free of discrimination.

Please note this position may be exposed to the risk of violent situations.

This position involves working and supervising shift work that will include a combination of weekdays, weekends, and day/evening shifts.
