We’re looking for our next Actuarial Analyst. Could It Be You?
The Actuarial Analyst is responsible for assisting the corporate actuarial reserving department in performing and enhancing quarterly reserving analyses and reporting for both primary and reinsurance business. You will support the delivery of timely and accurate actuarial analyses related to quarterly reserving, financial reporting, and monitoring changes in actuarial estimates. This role provides exposure to enterprise‑wide actuarial processes, financial statements, and interactions with Finance, Risk, and senior actuarial leadership. The successful candidate will apply actuarial techniques, and analytical skills to support management decision‑making and both local and group reporting.   • Maintain and improve internal reserving databases, including reserve class mappings and data reconciliation
  • Maintain and improve quarterly reserving system files including rolling forward projects each quarter and importing the most recent data.
  • Support the maintenance and enhancement of actuarial models, templates, and reporting tools.
  • Calculate the initial reserve projections based on different assumptions/methodologies.
  • Support quarterly nominal and IFRS 17 reserving and reporting work, including setting of assumptions, selection of appropriate methodologies and QA processes.
  • Monitor losses due to catastrophic events.
  • Perform actual versus expected analysis, including explanation of large movements during the quarter.
  • Analyze and explain drivers of changes in actuarial estimates, including actual experience vs. expected results, assumption updates, and model refinements
  • Produce quarterly underwriting year/accident year exhibits for management, group reserve and board meetings.
  • Develop improvements in methods and procedures as necessary to improve efficiency of reserving procedure.
  • Assist with technical accounting to complete quarterly reports to P&C and year-end reports for OSFI.
  • Assist in preparing Appointed Actuary Report annually
  • Assist in producing data for risk capital model, retrocession, earthquake accumulation and financial planning.
  • Assist with Financial Condition Testing analysis
  • Perform deep dive/ad hoc innovative analysis as required
  • Assist in other actuarial areas, as required.

So are YOU our next Actuarial Analyst? You are if…

  • Completed Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, or equivalent
  • Successful completion of 2 or more CAS/CIA actuarial exams highly preferred.
  • 1 to 3 years’ experience as an actuarial analyst in the property & casualty industry.
  • Good statistical knowledge.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to adjust communication style to audience whether internally or externally.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, risk evaluation and decision making skills.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills.
  • Demonstrate accuracy and an eye for attention to detail.
  • Excellent computer skills, including experience with spreadsheet and database applications.
  • High degree of drive, self-motivation, continuing development and proven ability to work independently and build strong relationships with colleagues.
  • High degree of flexibility and adaptability to changing environment and situations.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • You ideally have knowledge of Power BI/R/similar software and predictive analytics.

Our base salary range for this role is between $78,370 and $101,420 per year, plus an opportunity for an annual company bonus based upon a percentage of eligible pay. The salary estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for candidates hired in this position. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to internal equity.

This role is located in our Toronto office on 390 Bay St, and we operate in a hybrid work model. This job posting is for an existing vacancy.
