Position Summary
This position is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and overhauling mining equipment in the shop and field.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct inspections on mining equipment and report any deficiencies.
- Identify worn and damaged parts, repairing, adjusting, or replacing as needed.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs.
- Repair equipment in accordance with diagrams and manufacturer’s specifications.
- Test repaired equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
- Perform preventative maintenance and operational performance checks on equipment.
- Collect data on machine operations and suggest actions to reduce machine downtime.
- Maintain records of repairs and preventative maintenance activities.
- Operate support equipment as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
- Red Seal Journeyperson Heavy Duty Equipment Technician certification.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
- Previous experience in a mining environment is an asset.
- Must be able to work 12-hour shifts, rotating days and nights.
Schedule
This position currently follows a 28-day shift rotation working day and night shifts from 7:00 to 7:00. The shift rotation is: 3 days, 2 off, 2 nights, 3 off, 2 days, 2 off, 3 nights, 2 off, 2 days, 3 off, 2 nights, 2 off.
Location
The Estevan Mine is located approximately 12 km from the city of Estevan and 16 km from the town of Bienfait. The successful candidate will be responsible for his/her own accommodations and transportation.

Westmoreland Mining is the oldest independent coal company in the United States. Westmoreland’s coal operations include sub-bituminous and lignite surface coal mining in the Western United States and Canada, a char production facility, and a 50% interest in an activated carbon plant.
