TITLE: Relief Groundsperson 1 - 40 Hours
DEPARTMENT: Facility Services
REPORTS TO: General Manager, Facility Services
**WAGE: **$29.02 hourly wage effective July 1, 2024
SUMMARY:
Under general direction the Grounds Person is responsible for the maintenance, repair and general upkeep of grounds. The Grounds Person works cooperatively with other employees, students and the public.
DUTIES:
- Operate equipment, vehicles, trucks, and/or in combination with trailer units.
- Installs and/or maintains playfield and playground equipment such as goal posts, basketball hoops and swings, occasionally using simple site plans and working drawings.
- Shovel soil, snow, collecting litter and emptying garbage containers.
- Turf grass and irrigation maintenance.
- Assists with installation of blacktop and concrete on small projects.
- Directs, advises or assists other employees as appropriate.
- May be required to train other employees in the operation of specific equipment as directed.
- Orders material and supplies as required.
- Reports work completed including time and materials used.
- Maintains a clean, safe work environment including equipment and vehicles.
- Routine inspections of school and district equipment.
- Performs other maintenance related or emergent duties.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY, SKILLS:
- Completion Grade 12 education or equivalent.
- Training in the operation of grounds equipment.
- Minimum of two years related experience.
- A valid B.C. Class 5 Driver's License.
- Knowledge of health and safety procedures, including Workplace Hazardous Materials Information
- General knowledge of Turf Grass and Irrigation maintenance.
- Competent in the use and care of tools and equipment common to this work.
- Ability to plan and schedule work and organize the workload effectively.
- Ability to use courtesy and tact in the explanation of and discussion of information in contact with students, suppliers and other staff.
- Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to perform individually and as part of a team.
- Physical capabilities to perform the job duties.
- Basic computer skills.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED (Grounds Person)
Hand tools, air tools, power tools, ladder, mower, sweeper, blade sharpener, and other ground person's equipment.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES
- Sufficient vision to perform duties of a groundsperson.
- Fundamental ability to use the tools and equipment of the trade.
- Physical strength required to do heavy manual work in all weather conditions.
