JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Payroll Manager, the Payroll & Benefits Specialist will support the timely processing of the employee payrolls for three (3) individual companies. This position will support various analysis, review, reconciliation, and completion of periodic activities to maintain the accuracy and integrity of financial information. The Payroll & Benefits Specialist will engage with numerous internal and external stakeholders, placing a strong emphasis on detail and a commitment to service excellence.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Responsible for full cycle bi-weekly payrolls using Dayforce.
- Act as a point of contact for payroll and benefit related inquiries.
- Review of time sheet and follow up with supervisors/managers on time sheet errors/discrepancies.
- Update payroll related records within the system including taxation, deductions/earning set-up, group benefit premiums etc.
- Verify payroll adjustments/pay data from all sources in accordance with our payroll cycles and timelines.
- Support and resolve enquiries related to payroll, providing accurate and consistent interpretation of legislation, company policies and procedures.
- Review and audit new hires and terminations to ensure accurate and complete documentation.
- Administration of the group benefit plan as well as the Group RRSP.
- Reconcile and prepare journal entries, periodic remittance requests of Union dues, group benefit invoices, WSIB, etc.
- Assist in the production of year-end tax slips and related year end summary filings as well as rollover activities into the new year.
- Adhere to the terms of the Collective Agreement and ensuring compliance under the ESA and CLC.
- Maintain a thorough working knowledge of payroll system and keep abreast of legislative and regulatory changes impacting payroll.
- Initiate and participate in process improvement initiatives.
- Uphold employee confidence and protect payroll operations by maintaining confidentiality.
- Other duties and projects as required.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- 5 years processing payroll, preferably with Dayforce or a similar integrated HRIS system.
- Certified payroll designation or working towards designation will be considered an asset.
- Post secondary education with a focus on administration and accounting preferred.
- Highly organized and detail oriented with thorough follow-up skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills.
- Proficiency using MS Office applications, particularly able to manipulate Excel spreadsheets.
- Able to meet deadlines and work under pressure with interruptions and conflicting priorities.
- An independent, logical, methodical thinker who also thrives working as part of a team and is self-motivated.
- Eager to learn and take on new challenges.
- For the successful candidate, natural attrition may create opportunities for rapid advancement.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Hybrid work environment (office and remote)
- Flexibility required based on payroll cycles and business needs
- Occasional travel to other Ippolito locations may be required
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday

Compensation: Range $55,000 to $62,000
