JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB****TITLE: Teacher
** JOBSUMMARY:** Provide teaching and educational services to assigned students and to supervise students as directed by the Tlisalagi'lakw School Principal.
** **SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach students of Tlisalagi'lakw School as assigned
- Involve family and community members in classroom activities
- Prepare year, term, monthly, weekly, and daily lesson plans
- Evaluate and report on students' intellectual, social and academic progress regularly
- Accommodate all children by adjusting teaching strategies and curriculum as required
- Consult bi-weekly with the Special Education Teacher and Education Assistants
- Set academic and behavioral goals for each student and class
- Develop, display, and enforce a code of conduct for the classroom compatible with the school's discipline policy
- Participate as a member of the school's supervisory and extra-curricular teams
- Inform the principal and parents of any extraordinary situations pertaining to the student
- Provide written reports three times a year and attend home-school connection meetings and student-led conferences
- Attend all applicable staff meetings
- Inform the principal immediately of any potentially hazardous, unhealthy equipment or situations in the school or playground
- Plan, fundraise and implement a minimum of two field trips per year
- Participate on the school-based teams and committees as required
- Attend Professional Development activities as required
- Follow the British Columbia Curriculum
- Incorporate as much of the Kwakw a k a 'wakw culture and Kwakwala language as possible into the regular curriculum
- Maintain up to date records as required by the principal
- Be familiar with and use current educational technology and trends as necessary
** ****SKILLS & EXPERIENCE: ** - Working knowledge of the British Columbia Curriculum
- Able to plan, organize and maintain student records effectively
- Able to lead, motivate, encourage and empower students
- Be computer literate with special knowledge of educational applications and functions
- Minimum six months of experience working with children
- Previous experience working in a First Nations community
EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS: - Bachelor's degree in education or undergraduate degree with teaching certificate
- Member in good standing with the British Columbia College of Teachers
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search
