**(Temporary, Permanent & Casual) **

Coquitlam School District invites applications from individuals for the position of Youth Worker – Indigenous Education for both permanent and casual positions. As the third largest school district in the province, we are located within a 40-minute drive from downtown Vancouver. The school district has a population of 34,000 students with approximately 4,400 teaching, administrative, managerial and support staff.

Working under the direction of administrator/designate, the youth worker implements and promotes individualized and/or group programs in First Nations studies under the direction of the teacher.

**Required knowledge and Skills: **

  • Completion of a two-year post-secondary education diploma in child/youth care from a recognized college/institution OR completion of two years of university course work in Psychology or Sociology.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
  • A thorough knowledge of First Nations cultures, traditions and values demonstrated through Indigenous Ancestry.

The successful applicant will be a person of Indigenous ancestry in accordance with an approved special program under Section 42(3) of the British Columbia Human Rights Code.

As per Human Rights Code Exemptions:

Experiences and employment history that relates to the role should an applicant not have a post-secondary education or diploma due to the barriers created by colonization.

The following will be accepted as equivalent to a two-year diploma in child/youth care for applicants applying to Indigenous Youth Worker positions.

  • Self-identification of Indigenous ancestry (First Nations, Metis, or Inuit).
  • 2+ years experience working with children and youth (preferably Indigenous children and youth).
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities on a reserve and/or within an urban setting, with a focus on working with children and youth (preferably Indigenous children and youth).
  • Experience recognizing and providing culturally sensitive services in an educational setting to children and youth.

Both continuing and casual positions are unionized and offer $34.28/hour. Continuing positions are 37.5 hours / week while school is in session and include an attractive benefit package which consists of Extended Health, Dental, and Pension Plan (MPP). Casual positions offer 16% in lieu of benefits.
