Position Summary
The Maintenance Specialist is a high-level technical expert responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving complex mechanical, electrical, and automation issues across a high-speed, multi-product manufacturing facility. This facility includes food and beverage bottling, plastics blow molding, resin handling systems, and associated utilities. The role focuses on maximizing equipment performance, reliability, and uptime, supporting capital projects, and driving continuous improvement initiatives without direct supervisory responsibilities.
The specialist works hands-on across production, packaging, and facilities systems to solve advanced technical challenges, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant operations.
Key responsibilities
Technical troubleshooting & maintenance

Diagnose, repair, modify, and maintain complex machinery, automation, and utilities, including mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and robotics systems.

Perform advanced troubleshooting to identify root causes of equipment failures and implement long-term solutions to minimize downtime.

Execute preventative and predictive maintenance tasks in accordance with established schedules, work orders, and manufacturer specifications.

Support OEMs and contractors during equipment installations, overhauls, and shutdowns, ensuring proper operational readiness.

Assist with equipment changeovers and ensure machinery is operationally ready for production.
Reliability & continuous improvement

Analyze equipment performance metrics (OEE, MTBF, MTTR, R&M per unit) to identify areas for improvement.

Apply reliability-centered maintenance (RCM), root cause analysis (RCA), 5s, and other continuous improvement methodologies to enhance equipment uptime and process efficiency.

Recommend and implement modifications to systems, processes, or procedures to improve safety, efficiency, and product quality.

Collaborate with engineering and continuous improvement teams on technical solutions and cost-saving initiatives.
Safety, quality & compliance
-
Ensure compliance with health & safety, environmental, and food safety regulations.

Follow strict lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and other safe work practices during all maintenance activities.

Conduct inspections and audits to verify equipment meets safety and food-grade standards.
-
Participate in risk assessments, safety investigations, and preventive action planning.
Technical planning & documentation
-
Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities, modifications, and troubleshooting procedures in the CMMS.

Monitor and manage critical spare parts and equipment supplies to minimize production interruptions.
-
Provide technical guidance and knowledge transfer to team members, without formal supervisory responsibility.
Qualifications & experience
-
Minimum 5–7 years of hands-on mechanical, electrical, and automation experience in high-speed food & beverage, plastics, or bottling manufacturing.

Dual-ticketed millwright/electrician certification preferred.
-
Advanced knowledge of PLC systems, robotics, industrial automation, and utilities (air, water, refrigeration).
-
Strong experience with CMMS systems (e.g., FiiX,) and preventative/predictive maintenance practices.
-
Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems independently and under high-pressure conditions.
-
Familiarity with OEE, lean, six sigma, and RCA methodologies.
-
Working knowledge of relevant regulatory standards (ESA, MOL, health & safety, food safety).
-
Proficient in Microsoft Office and data analysis tools to support maintenance decision-making.
Working environment & physical demands
-
Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders, and exposure to production areas (noise, humidity, moving equipment).
-
Ability to perform inspections at heights, in confined spaces, and in hands-on troubleshooting tasks.
-
Approximately 80% of time spent on the production floor, performing hands-on technical work.
-
Flexibility to respond to after-hours emergencies, production downtime, or critical troubleshooting requirements.
Pay rate: $43.75-46.75/hr to start (depending on experience and certifications)
