The Urban Planning and Economy department is looking to add a proactive thinker with an in-depth knowledge about economic and industrial development. You will be a key player in a team of marketing and communications professionals, adding your skills to ours to help promote the financial opportunities and benefits of investing in Edmonton.

As the successful candidate, you will plan, develop and deliver strategic, audience-focused marketing initiatives that support businesses, investment attraction and economic growth for the City of Edmonton. You will contribute to key branch priorities, including the Industrial Investment, Downtown and Economic action plans.

What will you do?

  • Develop and execute integrated marketing and communication plans to support economic development, business retention and WinterCity initiatives
  • Lead market research activities to uncover audience insights and inform high-level strategic decision-making.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to translate complex economic priorities into persuasive promotional plans.
  • Deploy innovative tactics across digital, social, print, paid media and experiential channels to reach target audiences
  • Write and produce high-quality marketing copy, advertising materials and strategic communications
  • Direct and execute content creation, including capturing and editing photo and video assets to support visual storytelling
  • Ensure all initiatives align with corporate standards and brand guidelines
  • Manage media inquiries
  • Work with other communications teams within the City to amplify economic success stories
  • Monitor, track and report on campaign performance, providing recommendations to improve effectiveness

Qualifications:

  • University graduation in Commerce, Business, Marketing, Communications or a related degree, with coursework in market research, communications, social marketing and/or digital marketing
  • Minimum two (2) years of marketing experience

Skills Required for Success:

  • Proven experience developing and evaluating strategic marketing programs that yield measurable results.
  • Demonstrated ability to write and edit compelling content for a variety of professional and public platforms.
  • Technical proficiency in photography and video production, including the ability to capture and edit high-quality visual content.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess market conditions, audience insights and campaign performance.
  • Experience building, managing and maintaining relationships with internal teams, senior leaders and external partners
  • Exceptional project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Work Environment:

  • This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52.
  • This position may be eligible for the City’s Earned Day Off program.
  • Availability to attend events during the evenings and weekends may be required from time to time.
  • The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
  • This is a public-facing role and requires engagement and interaction with diverse people from various backgrounds with different needs, expectations and emotional states.
