Description Under general supervision, operates a number of light duty motorized vehicles. Performs general landscape maintenance functions.

Typical Duties The following illustrative tasks indicate the level of skill required, and the extent of responsibility involved in this job. They in no way limit the incumbent to the tasks indicated.

  • Drives and operates a truck, van and a variety of landscape and snow removal vehicles and equipment. Please note that drivers in Trades Services drive and operate trucks or panel vans, and transport Trades personnel and tools/equipment to various work sites onthe St. George Campus
  • Sets up vehicles and equipment for use, and performs simple adjustments. (please note that drivers in Trades Services will add oil, windshield washer fluid, change tires, and other simple adjustments as required); clean the interior and exterior of truck daily; perform daily inspections of interior and exterior and mechanical aspects of vehicle; complete vehicle maintenance form and submit to supervisor; report deficiencies to supervisor
  • Loads and unloads equipment onto vehicles (please note that drivers must ensure materials and equipment are secured safely)
  • Maintains records of mileage and fuel used on vehicles (please note that documentation is submitted to supervisor)
  • Works on campus cleaning details using appropriate vehicles and equipment
  • Works on campus snow and ice removal details using appropriate vehicles and equipment
  • Works on campus moving details using appropriate vehicles and equipment
  • Trims, cuts and waters grass and flowers, rakes leaves, lay sod; plants flowers, shrubs and trees (please note that drivers in Trades Services will not be required to do landscaping duties)
  • Other related duties as required

Minimum Requirements For Selection Education

  • Completion of grade 12 or equivalent
  • WHMIS, and Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certificate required or willingness to obtain Certifications

Experience

  • Three years’ experience driving related vehicles is preferred

Other

  • Possession of Provincial Class "G" driver's license
  • Physical ability to perform required duties
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English (verbal and written)
  • Works under all weather conditions and may be required to work long and various hours
  • Good interpersonal skills including tact, courtesy and diplomacy
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
