Job Description Job Summary The Public Relations Specialist supports efforts in the areas of marketing, public relations, and strategic engagement with stakeholders in the mission of The Salvation Army.

Key Accountabilities

  • Public Relations Support
  • Respond to inquiries, providing timely assistance with the goal of resolving issues and providing thorough communication and response.
  • Work collaboratively to address questions both with department leads and inter-department leads, responding with sensitivity and urgency.
  • Marketing
  • Support integration of marketing strategy for the territory enhancing marketing efforts to promote and strengthen the image of The Salvation Army
  • Distribute creative assets based on approved strategies
  • Support regional content to attain the goal of raising awareness of The Salvation Army
  • Communications
  • Coordinate content earned media pitches, donor and stakeholder reports and other promotional materials Review written content for communication pieces that may include media releases, benchmark reports, presentations and earned media opportunities
  • Coordinate opportunities that highlight The Salvation Army’s impact while strengthening brand and optimizing new audiences
  • Strategy
  • Support team members on projects to meet established timelines
  • Support strategic planning with the goal to engage and mobilize an external audience in the work of The Salvation Army to build sustainable partnerships that further the Army’s mission.

Education And Experience Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, or other related discipline
  • A minimum of three years related public relations experience in an organizational setting, with previous non-profit experience as an asset
  • Good understanding of social media KPIs
  • Knowledge of design applications preferred
  • Flexibility to work outside regular business hours and availability on short notice required (i.e. Disaster response). Some travel required
  • Excellent knowledge of social media best practices
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Excellent working knowledge and experience in various software and reporting tools such as Microsoft Office, WordPress, Hootsuite, and an ability to quickly learn new applications
  • Excellent project coordination skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities. Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities as required
  • Excellent use of English language and writing for print and online

Compensation The target hiring range for this position is $55,693.49 to $69,616.86 with a maximum of $83,540.23.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
