We serve a student population of approximately 4700 students. Qualicum School District consists of eight elementary schools (Grades K-7), two secondary schools (Grade 8-12), an alternate school (PASS/Woodwinds) and a Distributed Learning program to support home-learning families called the Collaborative Education Alternative Program (CEAP). False Bay School on Lasqueti Island is entirely off-grid with an immense solar project recently completed. Qualicum School District is seeking applications for Spare School Meals Worker
**JOB TITLE: **Spare School Meals Worker
Spare Employees are paid 4% in lieu of benefits and 4% in lieu of statutory holidays, plus 6% in lieu of vacation.
**JOB FUNCTION: **The School Meals Worker play a vital role in students’ lives by preparing and distributing breakfast, lunch and/or snacks program to school-based students as needed and ensuring respect, equity and dignity for all within legal and regulatory requirements.
**REPORTING TO: **Report to the District Principal, Early Learning and Child Care.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK:

Supports the planning and development of menus and nutritional options, including food ordering and quantities, using local sources where possible.
-
Ensure the BC Ministry of Education Guidelines for Food and Beverage Sales in BC Schools, WorkSafe BC, safe food practices and any other applicable laws or health regulations are adhered to at all times.

Monitors the amount of food consumption and student food likes and dislikes.
-
Prepares and sorts lunches to division categories and ensure timely distribution to participants.
-
Ensure unused portions are sorted and stored according to health regulations.
-
Helps with meal service and clean up.
-
Student Supervision including explaining procedures to helpers/runners.
-
Photocopy and distribute monthly newsletter about program to all students.

Create and maintain records and lists of all participants of program
-
Communicate with students, staff and others
REQUIRED ABILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS:
-
Grade 12
-
Food Safe Level 1 and 2 Certification.
-
Two year’s related experience within the past five-year period.
-
Proficiency using Microsoft Office.
-
Ability to ensure confidentiality related to students and the program.
-
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
-
Effective organizational, time management and problem-solving skills.
-
Responsible Adult Certificate will be considered an asset.
-
Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License
-
Nutritional background or certification is considered an asset.
Successful applicants must successfully complete an Authorization for Criminal Records Search pursuant to the Criminal Records Review Act.
