Position Summary
The Head Chef oversees all kitchen operations, including staff supervision, food preparation, and menu development. This role is responsible for budgeting, recruitment, and staff training, while ensuring innovative, high-quality offerings. Working closely with the Hospitality Manager, the Head Chef ensures efficient back-of-house operations and exceptional dining standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and update seasonal menus to maximize quality and gross profit.
- Maintain food quality, portion control, presentation, and cost standards.
- Lead, train, and manage kitchen staff, including attendance and performance oversight.
- Ensure compliance with hygiene, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee purchasing, inventory control, storage, and regular stock takes.
- Coordinate with management to ensure smooth operations and equipment maintenance.
- Monitor industry trends to support menu innovation and revenue growth.
Qualifications
- 1–3 years of experience as a Head Chef or senior culinary leader.
- Culinary Arts Diploma or equivalent experience in menu and service design.
- Valid FoodSafe (or provincial equivalent) and Standard First Aid & CPR certification.
- Strong knowledge of food safety and hospitality industry practices.
- Proven leadership and human resource management skills.
- Experience in budgeting, cost control, and basic financial management.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
