About the Role:

The Human Resources Manager plays a pivotal role in shaping and maintaining a productive, compliant, and positive workplace environment within the organization. This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of human resources functions, including recruitment, employee relations, benefits administration, and compliance with employment and labor laws specific to Canada. The successful candidate will lead the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures that support organizational goals and foster employee engagement and retention. They will also manage disciplinary procedures and affirmative action initiatives to ensure fairness and equity across the workforce. Ultimately, the Human Resources Manager will serve as a trusted advisor to leadership and employees, driving HR operations that contribute to the overall success and sustainability of the company.

This is a temporary opportunity for approximately one year (June 2026 to August 2027).

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

Reports to the Executive Director.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in human resources management within Canada.
  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian employment law, labor standards, and affirmative action requirements.
  • Proven experience in benefits administration, employee relations, and disciplinary procedures.
  • Strong understanding of HR operations and human resources policies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Human Resources Professional designation (CHRP, CHRL, or equivalent).
  • Advanced training or certification in employment law or labor relations.
  • Demonstrated success in leading diversity and inclusion programs.
  • Proficiency with HR information systems (HRIS) and data analytics tools.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive human resources policies and procedures in compliance with Canadian labor laws and regulations.
  • Manage employee relations by addressing workplace issues, facilitating conflict resolution, and promoting a positive organizational culture.
  • Oversee benefits administration, ensuring competitive and compliant employee benefit programs are in place and effectively communicated.
  • Lead affirmative action and diversity initiatives to promote equal employment opportunities and foster an inclusive work environment.
  • Coordinate disciplinary procedures and performance management processes to ensure consistent and fair treatment of employees.
  • Collaborate with management to support recruitment, onboarding, and retention strategies aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Ensure HR operations run smoothly by maintaining accurate records, managing HR systems, and preparing reports for senior leadership.

Skills:

The required skills such as Affirmative Action, Benefits Administration, and Employment Law are essential for ensuring compliance and fostering an equitable workplace. Daily, the Human Resources Manager applies knowledge of HR Generalist functions and Labor Laws to manage employee relations and resolve workplace issues effectively. Expertise in Human Resources Policies and Disciplinary Procedures is used to develop fair and consistent processes that support organizational standards. HR Operations skills enable the manager to oversee smooth HR workflows, maintain accurate records, and generate insightful reports. Preferred skills like advanced certifications and experience with HRIS enhance the ability to implement strategic HR initiatives and leverage data for informed decision-making.
