Position Details
The University of Lethbridge is seeking a full-time, 18 month term position as a Communications Specialist starting in May 2025.
This role is dedicated to advancing the visibility and impact of the Southern Alberta Medical Program (SAMP) with a primary focus on engaging students, rural communities, and key stakeholders across various platforms. Reporting to the SAMP leadership, the position holds dual accountability with communications and outreach teams at both the University of Lethbridge (UofL) and the University of Calgary (UofC), ensuring alignment with the communications and strategic priorities of both institutions.
The successful candidate will lead the development and execution of a comprehensive communications and marketing strategy, ensuring that the SAMP story is effectively told to diverse audiences, including students, high school students, rural communities, preceptors, donors and government officials. Simultaneously, the candidate is expected to support outreach activities in local communities at all levels.
This in-person position is at ULethbridge main campus, with occasional travel to the UCalgary campus and/or surrounding communities in Southern Alberta.
Position Qualifications

Post secondary diploma/degree in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, or a related field.

Minimum of 5-7 years of professional experience in strategic marketing, communications, and content creation.

Exceptional skills in writing, editing, visual design, and producing various communication materials are required, along with strong experience in developing and executing integrated marketing campaigns across multiple channels, including social media, websites, and email.

Media relations experience and proficiency in web design and management tools, with expertise in Drupal being an asset.

Demonstrated experience in event planning, advanced content creation skills, and strong interpersonal skills for building relationships with diverse stakeholders.

Ability to distill complex information into clear messages, have knowledge of social media trends and digital marketing, and possess excellent organizational and time management skills.

Additionally, experience providing strategic counsel to senior leaders, delivering exceptional customer service, and maintaining high standards of quality, with experience in post-secondary or research-focused institutions is an asset.

The successful candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check.

A valid unrestricted Class 5 Driver’s License with no more than 6 demerits and submission of a motor vehicle record (driver abstract) dated within 3 months of the posting close is required.
Starting Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE)
$5,291.00 - $5,990.00 monthly
Full Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE)
$5,291.00 - $6,687.00 monthly (AUPE - Grade 12)
