TITLE: Millwright - 40 Hours
DEPARTMENT: Facility Services
REPORTS TO: Supervisor, Grounds, Facility Services
SUMMARY:
With minimal direction the millwright performs safety inspections and mechanical maintenance to school district equipment. The millwright works cooperatively with other employees, students and the public.
DUTIES:
- Diagnoses problems with school, shop and maintenance equipment.
- Installs, repairs and maintains shop equipment such as milling machines, metal and wood lathes, bandsaws, drill press planers, joiners scroll saws, grinders and metal and wood vises, dust extractors, air compressors, vehicle service hoists, motorized wall dividers and other equipment.
- Maintains accurate preventative maintenance records of equipment.
- Orders parts and supplies.
- Effectively organizes workload.
- Designs and fabricates parts and equipment to enhance safety and/or performance of equipment.
- Sets up and maintains a service and preventative maintenance schedule, maintains equipment records and requisitions parts.
- Directs, advises or assists other employees as appropriate.
- Reports parts and supplies inventory levels.
- Reports work completed including time and materials used.
- Maintains a clean, safe work environment.
- Occasionally performs welding tasks as directed.
- Performs other maintenance related or emergent duties.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY, SKILLS:
- Completion of Apprenticeship Program and a valid Interprovincial Trade Certification as a Millwright.
- Minimum of five years related experience at the journeyman level.
- Valid BC Class 5 driver's license.
- Good health and strength sufficient to perform the required manual tasks.
- Knowledge of health and safety procedures, including Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System, Workers' Compensation regulations.
- Ability to plan and schedule work and organize the workload effectively.
- Ability to demonstrate fine manual dexterity.
- Ability to maintain close attention to detail.
- Ability to use courtesy and tact in the explanation of and discussion of information in contact with students, suppliers and other staff.
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to perform individually and as part of a team.
- Basic computer skills
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Specialized testing equipment, hand tools, power tools, welders, computer, systems, ladder, scaffolding and other relevant millwright equipment.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES
- Sufficient vision to perform duties of a Millwright.
- Fundamental ability to use the tools and equipment of the trade.
- Manual dexterity.
- Ability to work in confined areas and at heights.
- Physical strength necessary to perform required tasks.
