Job Summary and Requirements

This is for one casual position, working 75 hours biweekly until September 18, 2026.

About the role:

The Heritage Carpenter plays a crucial role in the conservation of historic places within the Yukon. This position requires a skilled carpenter with a strong understanding of traditional building techniques, heritage conservation practices, and a passion for preserving the cultural heritage of the Yukon to work as part of a team of heritage professionals and First Nation partners, to conduct and plan for heritage carpentry work at sites managed or co-managed by the Historic Sites unit.

Essential Qualifications:
Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet the following qualifications.   • Experience in Carpentry, including work with traditional or historic building methods;
  • Experience in heritage conservation, restoration, or working on historic structures;
  • Experience working with Yukon First Nations and contributing to training and capacity‑building efforts;
  • Experience working in remote or field-based environments is an asset.

Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above will be equally considered.

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Suitability:
Candidates should have and may be assessed the following:

  • Proficiency in traditional carpentry techniques and use of hand tools;
  • Strong knowledge of heritage conservation principles and practices;
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; Strong communication and interpersonal skills;

Additional Information:

Conditions of Employment:

  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
  • Complete required field safety training such as Wilderness First Aid, Bear Aware, Boat safety and helicopter training, among others, as needed;

Job Requirements:

  • Travel to various communities and remote locations in Yukon, using various modes of ground, water and air transportation for periods up to 10 days at a time in a remote field camp setting;

  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks and work in various weather conditions.

  • Relocation expenses will not be provided for this position.
