JOB TITLE: Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician (Materials Handling Equipment)

POSITION TYPE: Permanent – Full Time

The Heavy Equipment Technician (Materials Handling Equipment) is responsible for the maintenance and repair of materials handling equipment. This includes performing routine and preventative maintenance, diagnosing and repairing equipment, testing and inspecting equipment, and maintaining accurate and timely records of all maintenance and operational data of the equipment in shop and field environments. Job Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Safety is your responsibility.
  • Interact with branch staff and Customers as a safety champion
  • Conduct planned and emergency maintenance for all materials handling equipment including; forklifts, pallet jacks, and telehandlers.
  • Recondition, test and repair all equipment components and systems as assigned by supervisor.
  • Maintain good working records for time, parts, supplies and outside purchases in repairs.
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance on materials handling equipment
  • Diagnose and repair issues with mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic components of materials handling equipment.
  • Perform set up and installation of materials handling equipment. Ensure operational requirements are met.
  • Provide recommendations for maintenance and parts replacements on materials handling equipment.
  • Maintain and care for shop tools, equipment and vehicles.
  • Communicate with others, internally and externally in a professional manner.
  • Order all parts and materials required to perform assigned repairs.
  • Maintain the work area in a clean and safe condition.
  • Maintain high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Champion safe work practice in all aspects of daily activities and task assignments.
  • Adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety standards as the company is committed to the protection and wellness of its employees.
  • Complete RME Safety expectations and report in a timely fashion.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements and Qualifications Include:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3-4 years of experience maintaining and repairing materials handling equipment.
  • Ability and certification to maintain and operate materials handling machinery (forklifts and telehandlers).
  • Ability to lift up to 50kg.
  • Moderate diagnostic, technical, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Completion or working on obtaining a formal apprenticeship program is preferred.
  • Understanding of materials handling equipment
  • Understanding of health and safety best practices
  • Ability to work independently and in a group and customer setting.
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation.
