We are looking for a temporary full-time contract Recreation Assistant to join our Westhill team in Waterloo! The Recreation Assistant supports the Recreation Manager in delivering recreation programs at the retirement residence. Working together with a vibrant recreation team, the Recreation Assistant helps to creatively plan, implement, and evaluate a diverse calendar of events for a vibrant and independent community.

About The Role
- Support the Recreation Manager in the delivery of recreation programs at the retirement residence.
- Working together with a vibrant recreation team, help plan, implement, and evaluate a diverse calendar of events for a vibrant and independent community.
- Prepare, deliver and clean up of assigned regular scheduled individual and group programs, in a neat and safe manner.
- Plan and implement new programs to meet residents’ needs.
- Provide assistance to the Recreation Manager in special event programming.
- Complete daily attendance records and other departmental records as required.
- Supervise volunteers and community organizations assisting in recreational programs.
- Develop and maintain good communication with residents, family, staff, volunteers, and community groups.
- Create posters and calendars to reflect current programming and posts as required.
Experience
- Prior experience in the hospitality industry and/or retirement living and coordination of recreation programs is preferred.
- Excellent customer service orientation.
- Varied interests in recreation and leisure activities.
- The ability to understand and perform duties effectively, communicate any pertinent issues regarding residents and their care, and work accurately and quickly.
- Self-directed and team-oriented, with proficient organizational and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Positive, enthusiastic attitude, with a genuine interest in providing enriching recreation opportunities to this population.
- Willing and able to work evenings and weekends.
- An excellent driving record. If the required driver’s license is not currently held, a willingness to obtain one if a van/ bus is included as a resource of the recreation program.
- Competent in Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel.
- Must successfully complete a Police Records Check and disclose any convictions, charges, restraining orders, probation orders and/or warrants during the course of employment that affect in any way the clear Police Records Check.
- Must provide a Tuberculosis Skin Test (TST) document or a Medical Note from a physician stating they are free from infectious disease.
