This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Business Development Associate - Mergers & Acquisitions based in Canada. This role offers the opportunity to help build and expand an acquisition pipeline within the software and technology sector. You will research markets, identify promising acquisition targets, and establish relationships with founders, owners, and senior decision-makers. Working closely with senior leadership and the M&A execution team, you will help qualified opportunities progress toward due diligence and deal execution. The position combines business development, market research, relationship management, and data-driven prospecting in a fast-moving environment. You will have the opportunity to explore diverse industries and business models while developing a strong understanding of software businesses and acquisition strategies. Success in the role requires curiosity, commercial awareness, disciplined pipeline management, and a genuine ability to connect with people. This is a fully remote opportunity designed for a proactive professional who enjoys measurable goals and creating new business opportunities. \n Accountabilities: Research and map software markets, industry verticals, and sub-sectors to identify attractive acquisition opportunities. Identify, qualify, and develop relationships with potential acquisition targets, including software founders, owners, and senior decision-makers. Develop and execute prospecting campaigns using email, outbound calling, and in-person meetings to communicate the organization’s M&A value proposition. Clearly communicate the investment strategy and ensure interactions with prospective targets are handled professionally and thoughtfully. Continuously research industries, market trends, and emerging opportunities to generate actionable insights. Build and maintain long-term relationships with founders, owners, and other key stakeholders. Record interactions, prospect information, and insights accurately in Salesforce while maintaining strong CRM discipline and data quality. Analyze outreach performance and refine prospecting campaigns to improve engagement and conversion. Maintain an organized acquisition pipeline, ensuring qualified opportunities are properly tracked and progressed. Collaborate with the M&A Execution team to advance qualified opportunities through due diligence and deal execution. Contribute to pipeline growth by consistently pursuing measurable business development objectives and outreach KPIs. Requirements 3+ years of experience in business development, sales, M&A sourcing, or a related field. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including a personable and professional phone manner. Demonstrated ability to conduct market and company research, build prospect lists, and generate actionable business insights. Strong business acumen and an interest in understanding different business models and industries. Financial literacy and familiarity with software and technology businesses are considered assets. Proficiency with Salesforce, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience with LinkedIn Sales Navigator, Outreach.io, or Apollo is considered a plus. Bachelor’s degree with strong academic performance; MBA or other graduate-level education is an advantage but not required. Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to take initiative and thrive when faced with new challenges. Excellent prioritization, organization, and multitasking skills, with strong attention to detail and pipeline discipline. Natural relationship-building ability and confidence engaging with founders and senior decision-makers. Curious and adaptable mindset, with the ability to quickly understand unfamiliar industries and business models. Comfortable working toward measurable goals, outreach KPIs, and pipeline development targets. Benefits Fully remote position based in Canada. Full-time regular employment. Expected salary range of CAD $60,000–$70,000 per year, plus commission, depending on experience and qualifications. 3 weeks of vacation. 5 personal days.
