Employment Status Part Time Employment Type Casual Job Summary
Under the direction of Management and the Security Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for the security and safety of the campus and all those present. In addition, the incumbent will be responsible for detecting any suspicious happenings and preventing vandalism, thefts or other criminal behavior. This role also serves as the main provider of First Aid services on campus.
Specific Duties
- Ensure the safety and security of the campus and those present; Conduct regular patrols of interior and exterior of CNC property to establish and maintain security controls;
- Lock all doors, windows and gates at required times;
- Open classrooms, doors, and gates when instructed and at the times specified;
- Maintain security of parking lots, vehicles, and other equipment;
- Attend certain areas on campus as per CNC directive;
- Provide assistance to all members of the staff, public and student ;
- Engage with persons of interest and direct them off campus if not seeking College services in a way that ensures personal safety.
- Provide access to secure spaces where applicable;
- Be attentive to prevent loss or damage of high security areas i.e. Computer Centre, Labs, Media Services, Library, Bookstore, Offices;
- Provide first aid as required;
- Maintain sterility and organization of Dressing Rooms and First Aid supplies belonging to the Security Department;
- Record and report all safety and/or security incidents, including malfunctions and repairs;
- Keep and maintain records, logs, room booking information and reports;
- Watch for vandalism and report same;
- Shut off all machines that have been left on;
- Monitor materials leaving building;
- Transport cash and secure if required;
- Monitor and respond to all alarms (fire, trespass, trouble, motion, Power Plant computer, etc.);
- Monitor all utilities in the building with particular attention to such things as water leaks, heat loss, lights, etc. In the absence of Custodial staff, clean up spills that pose a safety hazard;
- Make a note of the times that various contractors fulfil their obligations with regard to parking lot maintenance;
- In the event of an emergency, must follow callout protocol;
- You will be part of a team actively engaged in contributing to and accomplishing the vision, mission, and goals of the College and in supporting the aspirations and needs of our learners.
- You will promote a positive work atmosphere by interacting and communicating in a professional manner that demonstrates mutual respect with students and colleagues.
- Other related duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Skills & Qualifications

High School completion plus additional advanced courses in Basic Security Training

Completion of Basic Security Training Certificate

Must hold a valid British Columbia security licence
-
6 months or more in commercial/institutional security and/or public relations

Minimum of a valid Intermediate First Aid (formerly OFA Level 2) ticket is required;
-
Must possess a valid minimum class 7 novice (N) driver’s licence;
-
Must maintain a clear criminal record and report any infractions;
-
Must be bondable;
-
Good communication (oral and written) and public relations skills are required.

Must possess a working knowledge of computers (email, MS Office, etc.)

Physical ability to complete the job.
