About the role
SUMMER DAY CAMP LEADER
Trico Centre is seeking enthusiastic Day Camp Leaders to provide safe, fun, high-quality programs for children and youth ages 4-14 years. Day Camp Leaders play an active role in planning and delivering engaging day camp experiences while ensuring a safe and inclusive environment. Day Camp Leaders report to the Day Camp Leadership Team**.** Hours of work can range from 20 to 40 hours per week or be on-call as needed. This is an hourly position, and hours are not guaranteed as they are based on operational needs and registration numbers.
Qualifications:
- Enrolled in or completed post-secondary studies in Education, Child Studies, Child and Youth Care, Early Childhood Education, Psychology, Social Work, Health & Physical Education, Kinesiology, or another relevant field. Equivalent experience in children’s programming is also considered.
- Minimum age requirement is 16 years.
- Must be available for scheduled shifts between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM (this includes daycamp shifts and staff meetings/ training.)
- Must be available Monday to Friday for the camp season (July 6 – August 21). Limited shifts will be available on July 2-3 and August 24 – 28 (daily camps), with priority given to staff who are available.
- Standard First Aid & CPR Level C/AED (must be current and valid through until September 2026).
- Trico Centre will initiate a comprehensive criminal background check for all new hires who are 18Y or older. Previous checks completed within the last six months are acceptable.
- Previous leadership experience in children’s programming is an asset.
- High Five, NCCP, Early Childhood Educator, Brain Story certifications are an asset
All successful candidates must be available for mandatory training as follows:
June 19- 21, 2026. Open availability is required as training times may vary.

Performance Responsibilities:
Attend mandatory training (June 19-21) and attend all required staff meetings (Monday- Friday 6:00-7:30pm.)
- Enhance leadership and job performance.
Available Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00am – 6:00pm:
- Varied hours are set by supervisors based on camp needs.
Plan, organize, lead, and supervise daily activities:
- Ensure activities are engaging, safe, meeting camp program description, and are appropriate for campers’ age groups.
Create a positive and inclusive camp environment:
- Ensure campers feel welcome, supported, and encouraged to participate.
- Notify the Inclusion Facilitator when a camper would benefit from additional support.
Be a positive role model to campers:
- Present a supportive/caring approach and professional appearance.
- Actively promote Trico’s mission, vision, and values.
Provide updates, feedback and support:
- Communicate with campers, caregivers and fellow staff members in a clear, kind, and professional manner.
Assist with administrative tasks:
- Maintain daily attendance tracking of campers, monitor supply inventory, and notify supervisors of any equipment maintenance.
Maintain facilities:
- Maintain daily set up, take down and cleaning routines of all camp facilities.
- Ensure equipment is properly stored and secure.
- Immediately report any safety hazards or maintenance issues to the Coordinator / Team Leads.
Ensure the safety and well-being of all campers:
- Be a positive and proactive role model who adheres to rules during activities and demonstrates proper use of equipment.
- Follow emergency procedures and protocols.
- Provide first aid assistance when required.
.Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:
- May be required to lift and move items weighing 30 lbs. or greater
- Work with cleaning supplies
- Duties may include field trips, participating in indoor/outdoor sport related activities (including entering the swimming pool)
- Working in a noisy environment
Work Schedule:
Scheduled hours of work are based on participant registration numbers and individual performance resulting in work schedules that can fluctuate in hours from 20 – 40 hours per week or on-call (as needed) hours from Monday through Friday each week. A weekly work schedule will be developed cooperatively with the Day Camp Leadership Team to effectively accommodate the needs of participant numbers registered. Hours of work may not be guaranteed.
This position requires mandatory attendance at the Day Camp Leader Training program held June 19-21, 2026.
Status: $16-$19Hour (seasonal)
