As a Leader with Facilities, you will be expected to foster an inclusive leadership approach that promotes equity, diversity and inclusion, as well as psychological and physical safety. As a key decision-maker, you will empower and guide your team, applying political acumen and balancing strategic with operational leadership.
The Leader, Project Office will oversee a dedicated team that supports program and project management practices in Facilities. Facilities is accountable for the asset sustainment and responsible investment in existing City of Calgary facilities. You will be responsible for ensuring the Project Management Office (PMO) works in alignment with The City's Corporate Project Management Policy, framework, standards, and guidelines. You will work collaboratively to ensure all Projects and Programs meet QA/QC requirements. You will uphold the Professional Practice Management Plan (PPMP) within Facilities as a part of The City's requirements as a Permit to Practice holder. Primary duties include:
- Develop, implement, maintain, and support consistent and comprehensive program and project management practices.
- Coordinate resource planning, project assignments, and compile financial recoveries for program and project work delivered by the PMO to support activities, operations and the PMO's cost recovery model.
- Direct the quality assurance program under which all projects are delivered.
- Provide reporting functions and quality assurance to ensure successful outcomes of program and project deliverables.
- Act as Category Champion overseeing the process and evaluations of vendors that submit for prequalification with The City in the Buildings Construction category in collaboration with Supply.
- Provide oversight, responsible direction of the engineering/geoscience practices for the PMO.
- Participate in Corporate RM activities representing Facilities RM team and collaborate with other Corporate RM's to support The City's obligations with APEGA.
- Support the overall success of Facilities by participating as a member of the leadership team.
Qualifications
- A degree in Engineering in a related Engineering field and you must have at least 8 years of relevant professional engineering experience including project management, financial management, and change management obtained after receiving your P. Eng. Designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work Click here for more details.
- Preference will be given to applicants with a background in structural engineering/building envelope and/or experience in other facility related building disciplines (such as mechanical and electrical).
- You have demonstrated leadership skills and accountability accompanied by demonstrated strategic thinking skills and political acumen.
- You have strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills with well-developed presentation and facilitation skills.
- Demonstrated conflict management and negotiation skills with the ability to negotiate and build consensus.

- This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

Compensation: Level M2E $151,858 - 189,822 per annum
Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week.
Days of work: This position works a 5-day work week with 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
