As the Public Realm Lead, you will be part of an exciting team of talented placemaking design project managers delivering a community-shaping portfolio of programs, including Downtown Revitalization Capital Infrastructure, Main Streets, and Transit-Oriented Development. The team provides design and construction services for these strategic programs while supporting planning and ongoing operations to ensure a complete and seamless transition between departments.
In this role, you will lead a small team of project managers, acting as a champion for urban design excellence through a collaborative design studio environment, providing senior design leadership, review, and guidance to ensure high-quality public realm outcomes from concept through detailed design and construction handoff. Primary duties include:
- Leverage knowledge and understanding of City issues and topics, and develop an internal network of colleagues and advisors to enhance information exchange, foster effective relationships, build collaborative partnerships, and influence the achievement of mutual goals.
- Identify emerging issues and potential actions and support resolution through appropriate coordination and escalation.
- Investigate funding and resource options and obtain the required support, approvals, and funding to successfully execute initiatives and projects.
- Provide project management leadership to cross-functional teams of internal staff and external interested parties, including contractors, interns, and volunteers.
- Manage and support a team to ensure objectives for design quality, delivery, and execution of projects and programs are met.
- Build strategies and projects through relationship-building and by translating interested parties' interests into tangible outcomes.
- Provide design guidance on departmental projects, including application and policy-related work.
- Research and apply best practices, metrics, and tools that support resilient, sustainable, and equitable public realm outcomes.
- Prepare and present materials and recommendations to Committee and Council to support project and program needs.
- Support and contribute to a collaborative studio design environment.
Qualifications
- A degree in Architecture, Landscape Architect, Engineering, or Planning, supplemented with at least 8 years of relevant experience.
- Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
- Full membership in a recognized professional design association (AALA, AAA, or APPI) and/or a Project Management Professional designation (PMP) will be considered an asset.
- Working knowledge of urban design principles (from concept to construction drawing and specification), capital project delivery, and operations will be considered an asset.
- Success in this position requires strategic thinking, problem solving skills, sound judgment, excellent communication, and effective leadership and relationship building.

Workstyle
- This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

Compensation: Level A2 $115,627 - 144,534 per annum
Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
Days of work: This position works a 5-day work week with 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
