Assignment Area(s): Grade 1-5 Indigenous Place-Based Program (2 Positions)****
Location: Sqwa (Skwah) First Nation**** & Tzeachten Sports Field
Effective Date: July 6, 2026, to July 17, 2026 (8:15 am – 12:45 pm) (Instructional time is 8:30 – 12:30)
Please Note: The assignment in July may not be identical to the assignment in this posted position. Summer school programs are contingent upon student enrolment. If, on or around June 26, 2026, are insufficient class numbers for this assignment the course will be cancelled, and the teaching contract will be rescinded. Teachers will be paid in accordance with the Collective Agreement (Article B.29). By accepting this assignment, teachers do not receive experience or earn seniority or aggregate months of service towards conversions to a continuing contract (B status).
Deadline for Applications: April 27, 2026 - 12:00 p.m.
Electronic Applications must be submitted through Make A Future __www.makeafuture.ca and include a Cover Letter, Resume, Teaching Report, Transcripts & the names of two (2) current supervisors who can comment on your teaching.
**Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience: **
- extensive academic training, professional preparation, and qualifications in teaching all areas of this assignment
- knowledge of, and demonstrated application of the Ministry of Education's current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as applied to all areas of this assignment
- successful experience in teaching prior Summer Learning courses
- demonstrated sensitivity, awareness and understanding of child and adolescent development
- demonstrated enthusiasm for working with children and adolescents
- an exemplary work ethic with a proven ability to show initiative and work as an effective team member
- a demonstrated understanding of the First People's Principles of Learning
- willingness to collaborate with the Chilliwack School District and Halq'emeylem Language teacher.
- knowledge of the community supports, and the services that are available, and how they can expand the learning of students
- experience working with Grade 1-5 students in a Place-Based setting and creating engaging classroom activities
- demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Sto:lo culture and heritage
- willingness to take a leadership role in the development of this program
- demonstrated ability to work with education partners within the Indigenous community, including but not limited to, First Nation Band, Metis Association, and community education leaders
