About the role
MERRITT SECONDARY SCHOOL
** 1.0 FTE Continuing full-time Secondary Counselling position, beginning September 1, 2026.**
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
-
Counselling background with a Master’s Degree in Counselling. **__** -
Knowledge and/or experience related to BC Secondary curricula, graduation requirements and Inclusive Education Programs. **__** -
Experience/training in supporting the social-emotional learning needs of students and supporting school staff in implementing such programs. -
Experience in working with the School-Based Teams to provide integrated services to students. **__** -
Good interpersonal and conflict resolution skills that will facilitate individual and group counselling. **__** -
Training and experience working with grade-level students. -
Valid BC Teaching Certificate and familiarity with BC Curriculum.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

A commitment to supporting a variety of learning needs and inclusionary practices. **__** -
Knowledge of protocol in working with other agencies. **__** -
Training or experience in supporting the needs of Indigenous students. **__** -
Committed to establishing and maintaining positive relationships with students, staff and parents.

The starting annual salary for this full-time teacher position ranges from $64,664 - $112,806, with placement on the range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement.
