What do you offer?

The Director, Apprenticeship and Trades Development provides strategic leadership in advancing a modern, responsive, and inclusive skilled trades programming. This role is responsible for driving the innovation, design, and implementation of apprenticeship and trades programming that aligns with current and emerging labour market needs. The Director will provide national oversight and implementation of the Power of Trades model ensuring consistency, scalability, and measurable outcomes. The Director will lead the development of strong, collaborative relationships with a broad network of stakeholders, including industry partners, employers, training providers, government bodies, and community organizations. Through strategic partnership development, the role strengthens talent pipelines, expands apprenticeship opportunities, and promotes the value of skilled trades careers through YMCA programming. The Director ensures operational excellence in program delivery, monitors performance outcomes, and drives continuous improvement across all initiatives. The Director will also oversee programming budgets, manage staff, and ensure that programs maintain a high standard of service delivery.

Some of the tasks of this position include:

• Lead the overall management and strategic direction of the YMCA trades initiatives and expansion, particularly Power of Trades model nationally
• Ensure compliance with funder requirements, including budgeting, reporting, and grant obligations.
• Ensure compliance of SPO’s and other partners running YMCA of the National Capital Region trades programming as per contract requirements
• Cultivate and maintain partnerships with industry stakeholders, trade associations, and government agencies.
• Support staff through performance reviews, professional development opportunities, and mentorship in all trades programming
• Monitor program impact and outcomes, making data-driven adjustments to improve service delivery and participant success
• Ensure effective cross-program collaboration and alignment of training and employment outcomes
• Raise awareness of the programs within the community and among potential employers

What qualifications and abilities are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have the following:

Education

• Post-secondary education or an equivalent combination of experience and training in a related field, such as business administration, project management, construction management, or workforce development.

Language

• Fluent in English, oral and written
• French is an asset

Experience, Skills and Abilities

• 2-4 years of program management experience, with a demonstrated ability to oversee the implementation and success of complex programs, ensuring they meet objectives and compliance requirements.
• Comprehensive knowledge of skilled trades and construction regulations, with an understanding of key stakeholders in these sectors (e.g., trade associations, regulatory bodies, and industry leaders).
• Expertise in employment services and the trades or construction sectors, with hands-on experience managing or facilitating workforce development programs, particularly those related to skilled trades, apprenticeships, or training programs.

Additional Requirements:

• Applicants must already have a valid permit to work in Canada.
• A Police Record check, not more than 6 months old is required. Police Records checks are reviewed on an individual basis and the offense(s) - if any - is considered in the decision-making process in relation to the requirement of working with children, therefore not eliminating all candidates with a record from being offered a position.
• Annually, staff must complete the mandatory training for the protection of Children & Youth and submit the certificate of completion.
