Job Duties
The Simulation Centres prepare health care learners for clinical practice by building their competence and confidence through participation in realistic experiences. The Centres create a wide variety of situations, which translate into better care for patients when students graduate and enter their chosen field.
As a Simulation Assistant, you would be responsible to:
- Prepare high-quality simulations, including visual, auditory, and tactile components, to enhance student learning outcomes across health-related programs.
- Set up, calibrate, and dismantle medical simulation labs and mannequins; prepare and maintain equipment and supplies for various medical skill exercises. e.g. instillation of fluid compartments of simulators, dressing bundles, simulated sutures, wound care simulators, heat sealed instruments.
- Troubleshoot, calibrate, and perform minor repairs on simulation equipment, including A/V, mechanical, and electronic systems.
- Maintain consumable and capital inventory using tracking systems (e.g., Fasse Track);barcode, store, and report inventory to Lab Coordinators.
- Work with instructors, Simulation Centre staff, and Simulation Technicians to coordinate, plan, and execute simulation activities.
- Travel to other campuses (e.g., Ontario Ave, brokered PN programs) to support simulation set-ups, provide technical support, and manage supplies and logistics.
- Assist in training new Simulation Assistants and contribute to staff orientation and ongoing development initiatives.
- Ensure secure handling, proper disposal of biohazards, and adherence to
WHMIS
and OH&S safety protocols in all lab areas. - Foster collaborative working relationships with students, faculty, and staff; provide timely, clear communication to support the success of simulation-based education.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE

Required Qualifications, Skills and Abilities (QSA)

Degree or diploma in nursing; and/or certificate or diploma in paramedicine; or an equivalent or relevant combination of education, training and experience.

A minimum of two years of experience working in an acute care clinical setting.

Strong understanding of medical terminology and current knowledge of procedures and consumable medical products used in healthcare and in simulation, including the operation of simulation software.

Training or experience at the introductory level in the use of MS Office suite.

Effective communication (listening, oral, written) skills.

Good analytical and organizational skills.

Ability to work cooperatively within a team.

Ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision.

Demonstrates valuing diversity.

Must have valid driver’s license.
