About the role
Role at a Glance
The Structural Designer will work under regular supervision and guidance to perform assignments of limited scope and complexity, focusing on the application of prescribed standard engineering methods and techniques. This role involves assisting more senior engineers in carrying out technical tasks, resolving routine problems, and making recommendations on the acceptability of materials and work completed by contractors and suppliers.
This is a full-time 12-month contract, based out of our Kitchener office.

What You Will Do
- Develop and apply knowledge and skills in the structural engineering discipline under regular supervision.
- Perform assignments of limited scope and complexity, applying prescribed standard engineering methods and techniques.
- Assist more senior engineers in carrying out technical tasks requiring accuracy in calculations, completeness of data, and adherence to prescribed analysis, design, or computation methods.
- Use initiative and judgment in resolving problems, obtaining and analyzing data, and preparing designs.
- Solve routine problems by applying standard procedures and following detailed instructions.
- Make recommendations on the acceptability of materials supplied and work completed by contractors and suppliers.
- Develop knowledge of relevant building and design codes, and other standards.
- Work directly with internal and external clients, under guidance as required. - Maintain familiarity with other engineering disciplines and collaborate with representatives of suppliers or contractors as needed.
- Assist with various tasks and projects as assigned by supervisors or senior team members to support the overall success of the engineering teams and company objectives.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to our company values of quality, client focus, teamwork, sustainability, and community, integrating these principles into daily work practices and interactions with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders.
What We Need
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, applied sciences, or related field.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles and methods.
- Minimum of 2-5 years of engineering experience, preferably in a consulting environment.
- Proficiency in engineering software and tools (e.g., Revit, CAD software).
- Ability to work effectively independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work under regular supervision and follow established procedures.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Registered or pursuing registration with the P.E.O.
