About the role
Director, Junior School
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Head of School and a member of the Leadership team, the Director of Junior School is responsible for the academic, operational and administrative leadership in the Junior School. The successful candidate will successfully provide inspired leadership by modeling integrity and consistency in the implementation and follow through of all programs. They will demonstrate strong relationship building skills and hold staff accountable to high expectations. A progressive educator, they are expected to model and promote the Fraser Academy’s vision, mission and values. They will ensure a caring and supportive experience for students and faculty promoting academic excellence, wellness and character development. Position Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Reports to: Head of School
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate to ensure the Junior School curriculum is aligned with the school’s continuum of learning and meets the school’s definition of innovation and excellence
- Oversee the academic progress of Junior students
- Be responsible for the well-being and discipline of Junior School students
- Maintain communication with Junior School parents and organize student led conferences
- Prepare annual teaching workloads in consultation with the Director of Academics & Curriculum
- Oversee and manage the Junior School subbing roster and schedule. Chair the committee that schedules the Junior School timetable
- Promote positive relationships with faculty in a School climate that is supportive and promotes a holistic approach to high performance while maintaining wellness Build bridges across the School’s divisions and promote a well-connected School community
- Consult regarding the admission of children into the Junior School when required
- Work in tandem with the Business Manager in developing and overseeing the Junior School budget
- Participate in the selection and hiring of Junior School teachers
- Oversee evaluation and the professional growth of all Junior School teachers in collaboration with the Director of Teaching & Learning
- Work collaboratively with Executive Director of Learning Services to ensure a collegial relationship between departments
- Ensure that all school practices are congruent with the School’s mission and philosophy
- Organize and participate in various events, ceremonies and assemblies
- Lead the CPS (Collaborative & Proactive Solutions) initiative in Junior School
- Teach in the Junior School

** Requirements:**
- A valid BC teaching certificate
- Completed Orton-Gillingham (OG) training
- Understanding and experience with implementing the new BC curriculum
- Classroom experience and a minimum of 3 years experience in a leadership role at a school
- Masters Degree in Education or other discipline (preferred)
- Trained in Collaborative & Proactive Solutions or willingness to be trained
Compensation & Benefits
Fraser Academy offers an exceptional mission driven work environment, along with a with competitive benefits including (but not limited to) extended health and dental coverage, access to an HCSA, group RRSP with significant employer matching contribution, individual annual meetings on retirement planning and tuition reduction for children of staff (who successfully apply and enroll at FA). The salary range for this position is $120,000 to $145,000 per year. Final salary within this range is determined based on the successful candidate's specific experience, education and leadership background.
